Description
German battleship project created in 1939 as part of Plan Z. The project was created to compete with the warships being built at that time (French Alsace-class battleships or Soviet Project 23 battleships - Sovetskij Soyuz type). At the same time, Germany signed a naval agreement with Great Britain (as part of the Treaty of London, where the caliber of guns was reduced to 16 inches/406 mm). In September 1939, laying of the keels for two ships began, but due to changes in priorities and delays, they were scrapped in 1941. The ships did not receive their own names, and yet British sources gave (false) names: Hindenburg, Friedrich der Große, Großdeutschland, yet the Austrian Painter decided to call them Ulrich von Hutten and Götz von Berlichingen, because the loss of a ship with a "British" name (see above) would leave a significant mark on German propaganda.
