On first glance Zen seems like a really grumpy and cold hearted person,never smiling and always wearing a serious, sometimes dark face expression. His mean look keeps most people back from getting to know him closer so he doesn't have a lot of people he could call his friends. The Obake always seems to be in a bad mood and is not good at doing small talk and the like.
But thats just his outward appereance. He can be actually nice and kinda sweet if you get through his hard shell and win his trust and symphaty. On the inside he's a really nice guy who just never learned its okay to show your feelings open and that you always have to keep your defense up.

Story:
Zen used to be tha katana of a powerful samurai. He has been through many battles and wars together with his master. Back then he didn't mind the violence and killing,seeing it all had its sense and was necessary to protect the ones who couldnt do it themselfes. Untill the day the old samurai passed away and Zen was given to his oldest son. He was nothing like his father, crazy and insane from head to tow with only greedy and evil thoughts in his head. Over 6 decades Zen had to work as his weapon,killing the innocent people he tried to protect all the years before. Untill the one day when his creation was exactly hundred years ago and the sword finally was able to shift his form and stand up against his master. Filled with anger and frustration he killed him, but soon felt nothing butguilt and regret. He was scared of becomming just like him,so he leaft his old home with all the bad memories behind and searched for a new place to stay at where he could have a new start. The Obake soon found a town called Okumatta and choose to settle down at this peacedull seeming place. He opened the blacksmith shop, promicing himself to never create weapons, only tools of justice to protect the ones in need,never to destroy. Thats why he doesn't sell anything made to fight and possibily kill to everyone,he'll have a close look at you before you can buy something like a sword.
