Description
No, he was NOT an animation error, Prime Ben had 10 aliens when he got the watch, he just forgot about his 8th one. Tho he did use him more than Chamalien and Spitter, he was only used 9 times in total of the whole classic series (not counting Kevin or commercials), once as a cameo in UA and 2 times in Omniverse (and the series finale as a small cameo)... Which is such a shame cuz he could have been used as a powerful tool in the arsenal for his unique abilities. I loved him soooo much as a kid and I still do (can u tell? ) , and I think he deserves a spot and to actually be utilized in my reboot series in "the survival" playlist (aka starting 10).
Of course, I'm talking about Ben's Grandalba Volann transformation: Ripjaws
Now let's not waste any more time and dive in to his design, lore and their abilities! (Get it cuz he's an aquatic based alie- never mind..)
Grandalba Volanns (yes I renamed them just for the lore purposes) are aquatic fish like humanoid species that live deep underwater in the darkest depths of their home planet Piscciss. Their overall appearance looks like an off world fusion of the many earth species of fish and invertebrates that wonder earth's oceans (such as an anglerfish, a shark, a catfish, octopus, etc...) They are amazing swimmers, reaching up to 60km/h, have long versatile bodies and are very agile, but their greatest gift of nature is their jaws, that can bite through almost any substance in their galaxy, with sharp nearly indestructible teeth and a bite force of 7000 ppi, in a bite that happens in less then a second. That is due to their cheek muscles, that work like a 10 000 thin rubber bands that once triggered, pull themselves together at a great speed. With such strength and speed, they crush anything that comes in their path. Tho there's a price for the strongest/fastes biteforce in 6 solar systems: they can be silenced easily. So what I mean by that, is that it takes time for their cheek muscles to readjust to their base form, so they can sometimes really struggle opening their mouths, since it takes a lot of energy to open them back up again. That goes as far to a point where sometimes, they can't open their jaws if someone's even holding it with 2 fingers (simular to most of earth's crocodilians)
Their main way of survival in the depths is hunt for other less intelligent species from their home habitats. They hunt by either confusing or attract their pray to them via their bioluminescence, simular to an anglerfish. If their bait fails tho, they are more than capable of catching up to their prey. They manage to reach those speeds by folding their lower limbs and tangling then together to create a powerful shark like tail. Their actual lower limbs are sorted by: 2 leg like limbs and 2 tails (both spliting from their spine right under their ribcage). Their legs are actually rubber like tentacles with a skeleton beneath and strong muscles, capable of keeping the legs straight and use them for walking but eventually after a few minutes they'd tire and continue on slithering with their tentacles. But when they gotta swim, they'd pull all of their limbs together and connecting them with the spine like front tail that holds all of the 4 together.
Volanns breathe through their gills that are located on their necks, shoulders and their waists, but they too have lungs that fit with their ability of walking on land.
Overall they are one of the most feared species and some of the best predators on their planet with a pretty versatile and powerful abilities, but they've still got 2 major setbacks that keep them from not being too OP: 1st being their constant need of water, since Earth's atmosphere is quite different from Piscciss's, so the air Volanns breath doesn't contain enough water molecules for them to breathe normally, so they constantly need a refreshment every 7-20 minutes (depending on the overall temperature of the atmosphere too)
And the 2nd being their light sensitivity. Volanns usually lurk in the deep dark depths of Piscciss's oceans, where the only light source there is are some under water volcanos and plant life that glows in the dark. And despite Volanns naturally glowing at their tails and angler, most of the light underwater is either blue, green, purple or just straight up pitch black. So throughout the evolution they developed detecting these soft darker color and not adapting to other stronger, brighter lights. So a basic sunny sky on earth can really be troublesome for them, since the light is so strong to them that they get blinded or disoriented by just looking at it. Also the heat does not help, but Ben does learn to cope with that.
Anyway, that should be it, hope u like this redesign, I really tried to make it believable, alos one of the main goals was to make his loincloth tail more organic and unique. So yeah it was rly fun designing this one, plz lemme know what are ur thoughts about it. Also, I've recently created a new account for my art on Instagram, so u're welcomed to check that one out. But either way, this is where all the art is gonna get released first, so stick around for more future updates about this series and as always, keep on rockin! 💫✌
