A guest illustration I made for deel and the rest of Lion City Crew’s Comiket Special 2015 artbook "IDOL in SINGAPORE"
As the title suggests, the artbook’s theme is Idolmster : Cinderella Girls in Singapore.
The doujin circle Lion City Crew will be selling the artbook at the 6th Comiket Special to be held at Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex. They will be located at L-30b on the first day, March 28.

This particular piece took me about a month to finish; three weeks and a half for the background and one day for the girls (lol). It was a very painstaking process which involved asking deel (the artist who let me participate) to go around Orchard Road in Singapore to take photos. After receiving the photos, I had to paste them together in Photoshop, which I then vectored to create a believable background. There are a lot of inconsistencies with how the buildings look relative to one another; for example a person who's been to Singapore would know that Orchard Residences looks way bigger than it does here. But I really wanted to include it here so I shrank it to about 50% of its original size. I took too many artistic liberties here, and other fellow artists have told me that I would have had an easier time if I just took the photobashing route instead. Next time, perhaps.

Originally, I just wanted to draw Rin Shibuya (center), my favorite character from the series. It turned out that the circle had plans for Rin to be drawn together with her in-game unit, Triad Primus and they gave me the green light provided that I draw Karen (redhead) and Nao. I'm not really used to composing multiple characters in one piece but it wasn't as difficult as I had imagined, and I even ended up drawing Nao touching Rin's butt lol

Nao is the only one wearing a traditional outfit in this piece and I've been told it looks as if she were bullied into wearing this by the two other girls. I wanted to give her an embarrassed face because of this, but then I thought of her fans and held off on that. The logo on the screen behind her is SG50's logo as Singapore celebrates its 50th birthday this year. This was another suggestion by deel, in addition to the nighttime setting.

The nighttime setting was one of the most challenging parts in this piece (next to the buildings, anyway) but at the same time it was also very exciting. I have to admit it would have been a lot easier to paint this as a daytime scene but I was told that night time is when Ion @ Orchard really shines. I really hesitated a lot at the start too but the final result made me feel it was all worth it in the end. I liked it so much that I had a few copies printed in silk photo paper!

I'll be visiting this particular spot exactly one week from now. I'll see if I did it any justice! wooo
