Description My contribution to [link]
SilverBrumby contest. I can only hope I my efforts are not wasted. My character, Desimus, Tyra’s brother… in-law… or adopted older brother. A giant Quarter/Andalusian stallion, at 16.2 hh, and a slight silver line around his muzzle indicates some advanced age on his part. Still he’s strong as they come.

Desimus’ story:
An accident, it had all been a tragic accident. Tyra knows little about Desimus, because he does not like to talk about his long past. Desimus was the alpha male of his herd near Athens Greece. At the behest of his best friend, Pegasus, he visited him concerning matters of war. Pegasus insisted that the winged horses join mankind in their fight against the orcs. Desimus was not fond of men at all, nor was he keen on the idea of fighting the mighty beasts the orcs controlled. Pegasus however spoke his tales of past his riders, Bellerophon, Hercules, and Perseus, as well as his aid in destroying the fearsome Chimera. To Pegasus, these were not just his riders, they were his friends. Desimus, though, still refused to let his herd join the race of men – it was not their battle after all.

But as the years went by, and the orc battle died away, a new threat came upon them. A terrible plague had infected the race of men. It was never certain where it originated from, but mankind was certain the race of winged horses were carriers of it. One night, Desimus’ herd was ambushed by a gang of hunters. In one night his herd was gone! Many were killed. Looking over the bodies, he discovers his beloved daughter, Dorsa, was not among the dead. Had she been taken captive? He searched for days, but never found her. The danger from men never left, and he was forced to leave his home.

The Accident:
It was spring time, and Desimus caught a cold front that helped carry him across the Mediterranean. Sensing he was nearing land, the island of Crete, he comes in low to land. The winds were rough and the storms hard, but he could take it. With his eagle-like vision he spots land up ahead… and a ship in distress. Flying close, he could tell the sailors were in a panic fearing their ship would fall apart at any time. Upon seeing him, the men cursed him as a plague carrier. Desimus was tempted to just let the ship sink with all hands… No, no, no! That was not the way of his kind, he had to help. Reasoning with them, he tells them; a winged horse does not fly over a sea unless there is land close by. They could either trust him, or flounder in the sea. Naturally the sailors chose to follow and are saved.

The next day, Desimus readies to follow the cold front away from Crete, when he sees someone waving him down from a cliff. One of the sailors he had rescued yesterday had a son – young about 10 yrs old. Cautious, the stallion flies close to see what father and son want. The little boy showers the stallion with great thanks for saving his father, and wished him well. As boys will, he gripped a small tree and he reached to touch the stallion that hovered just beyond the cliff.

In that moment Desimus found himself so flattered and happy to know he had done this deed. Yet as he saw into the boy’s eyes, he too found something he never knew. Now he understood why his friend, Pegasus, insisted on making friends with men. Yes, now it made sense. There was that love that Pegasus spoke of. He hovered close to allow himself to be touched…

If any of them had only known what had really happened, the boy might have been saved. The stormy cold front concentrated the static electrical build up in the air. The electrodes collected in Desimus’ pumping wings – the same way it would in helicopter rotors. A winged horse is adapted to handle this kind of electrical charge, a human however... When the boy touched him… what was to be long and meaningful friendship, ended in a pop, as the young child became the ground for a circuit. Fortunately, for the boy, the human nervous system works in milliseconds and no faster, which was good as 120 volts at 500 amps passed through him and stopped his heart. He felt no pain, nor did he know what happened. Had they known about artificial respiration, he might have been saved, but instead, the boy fell back into his father’s arms and died.

Desimus was cursed by men from then on out. As he fled the scene, word spread of the boy’s death and he was blamed. Some spotters managed hit Desimus with yellow dye, which marked him - as the Greeks say: “Desimus Blood-Letter.”

As he continued on, Desimus managed to get far away from men, and was later able to settle in a distant land. To his joy, he managed to find a herd of winged horses, thankfully many still lived. Though a king in his native land, Desimus no longer seeks headship. His focus is starting over again with his new family, being a part of Tyra's tribe - now an adopted brother. He warns about the dangers of being friendly with mankind, and can be rather overprotective at times. Yet, he is a kind and gentle stallion, whose only interests are caring for his family. Tyra understand that he's tormented by all these unknowns, and seeks to draw it out of him. Slowly Desimus relates to her his wish to search for his long lost daughter, Dorsa, and friend, Pegasus. They are still alive, he knows it - somewhere out there, they’re alive.

You're welcome. I was happy to donate. I hope you can give him a good home. I'm curious what you'll do with him. Will he be the adopted brother, or... what?

Either way, you can continue to draw him as Tyra's half brother. I'm fine with it.

Well, everyone else was trying for Tyra's parents, I figured I shoot for sibling, we were given the option afterall. I'm glad I did too, some of those entires I don't think I could beat. Anyway, I think I'll take you up your suggestion and work on Desimus' daughter.
