Song suggestion: Total Defiance by Epic Score

Now, you're probably wondering why there is a winged version of me engaged in some monumental conflict with WordGirl, so I'll explain.

I'm on a huge WordGirl kick right now, and about a month ago I did a sketch of me delivering some sesquipedal monologue to WordGirl and Captain Huggy Face as some hypothetical villain. When I looked at the drawing of myself, I noticed that my pose was perfect for adding wings to. So pleased was I with the look that I decided to build an in-universe justification around it.

WordGirl is from the planet Lexicon. I like to think that the Lexiconians, as a race, aren't so much concerned with words as they are with diplomacy. They possess a natural proclivity for languages because of this. Becky Botsford, being marooned on Earth, discovered this adroitness without a Lexiconian cultural context, and focused on individual word usage as a theme.

My villain here is from a similar world called Sesquipedalia.
They are a race that is psychically ascendant, and revels in the exploration of only the highest echelons of language. From their perspective, the larger and more obscure a word is, the better. Unfortunately as a result, their society fosters an incorrigible arrogance that shuts down any and all diplomacy offered their way. In fact, what typically gave the Lexiconians a huge advantage in diffusing tense negotiations backfired completely with talks involving the Sesquipedalians. Lexicon was seen as a rival superpower to be overtaken and destroyed. Thus, an interplanetary cold war set in and lasted for centuries.

The specific story behind this picture is pretty vague. Likely the Sesquipedalian military discovered that Captain Huggy Face's ship is on the planet Earth, and fears that Lexicon is gathering allies for war. An unnamed insurgent (the guy in the pic) is sent in to eliminate the Lexiconian presence.

As far as powers go, the insurgent is more or less an equal match for WordGirl, though their powers center around psychically generated energy constructs, like the wings and the plasma-flame.

WordGirl is the property of PBS, and Dorothea Gillim.

The background was acquired here.

This could be a great story!Β
Both Word girl and The Insurgent could learn important lessons about each other and the people of Earth!Β

Ah yes, thank you. ^^ Β Hey man, if you think you can write Sesquipedalian monologues without keeling over, go right ahead. ^^

As a DC fan, I should note that your Insurgent is somewhat like the Thanagarians, who are winged people that one Hawkman hails from. The only thing i know about the Thanagarians is that they are an arrogant race who almost took over Earth were it not for the Justice League.

I like the fact that Wordgirl has an alien opponent with wings...and I like the name for that character: The Insurgent.

Although they're technically supposed to be energy constructs similar to the ones used by the Green Lanterns, I can definitely see the similarities in personality traits between Thanagarians and Sesquipedalians.
I actually have the start of this fight all drawn up in a comic. Β I just need to get around to scanning that dang thing and putting in the words.

Ha ha ha! Thanks!

Oh man, that lighting is what keeps me from growing tired of this picture. Β The lighting in the wings was actually a complete fluke! Β I had made the wings transparent to reflect their energy-based nature, and while messing around with filters in order to make the city background more vague, a miracle occurred. Β I had used a slight diffuse glow or something on the wings to make them brighter, and a filter on the city behind it combined with the transparency to make it freakin' glorious. Β I do not know how exactly I did it, but as soon as I did, I knew it had to be preserved. Β It may even be due to the fact that in the background stock, the sun is right behind that wing, giving me the impression that the sun's rays passing through the energy construct is what is causing the blinding effect.Β
