Hokulele, Hawaiian for "Shooting Star" is a beautiful 8-year-old blue and gold macaw who is the companion to a friend of my friend Randy's. Although she had a bit of a temper with me, she is the most healthy, clean, happy tropical bird I've ever seen domesticated. She was very loving to and protective over her owner, and would not let me get near him. She put on a beautiful series of flashy feather displays and playful dances while making voice imitations of her beloved owner.Related content

Wow, she's beautiful! I don't agree with domesticated birds at all but I'm glad she's healthy and happy..

I don't like exotic animals being put into the care of people either. But Hoku is the most well cared for bird I've ever seen in person. All others I've seen were always so stressed and sad that they pulled their feathers out and got skin disorders. The couple who care for her really know what they're doing, and I can't respect that more

Yes, I used to volunteer in a nature centre where they took in abandoned pets. Some of those poor creatures were so messed up, it was truly awful what's been done to them. However, from what you've told me I'm glad to see she's being cared for so well, you're right, if they know what they're doing then I must respect them also...
