Description I made this because I am irritated at the Rpers on DA being obsessed with this "MARY-SUE" B.A when they all sit around with basically the same stupid ass characters. I swear I read this conversation almost every damn day:

"Yeah, mine are better because mine can take care of themselves and are stubborn!"
"Really, so is mine!"
"Awesome, stupid Mary-Sue's. They're all the same, unoriginal and boring."
"Sure are..."

Of course originality does not exist. This is one of the many excuses "mary-sues" create strong, feminine characters.

Male attitude?? Gosh, I know more females that are stubborn.
It IS true that females are more aggressive and stubborn than males. That comes to both Human's and Animals, so don't get me wrong. Females are more AGGRESSIVE, but that doesn't mean that they are stronger than males. Because men are stronger, they aren't the one's to act ass aggressive as girls do.

You really do need to calm down. All you do is critique about other people's characters. Especially in this one here .

And now you call other people's characters stupid just because you don't like them.

Oh, and P.S. Have you ever thought that people have created characters after THEMSELVES? Oh like sure.. maybe they can't take care of themselves in the forest, but they sure can in their own environment. And like I repeated before.. girls are stubborn. So creating a character which is stubborn is common. You should've known that.

Oh, and I bet that you are going to ignore this comment because I'm against you. If not, then yay!

I think you missed the point about this stamp entirely and merely attacked me. I do not appreciate it.
The only example you gave was nearly two years ago. I have since apologized to that artist and have been more polite about my critiques. Two years can do a lot to change a person, I am not nearly as arrogant or snide as I once was.
Aside from that, I am not not disagreeing with you, I think people should get to play whatever characters they want. I just would like for everyone to accept each other. THAT is why I made this stamp. I had no intention of insulting anyone, just was trying to make a point.
Normally when I am in the chats I sit silently and wait for something of interest to appear. I never engage in arguments or harass people. This is only my observation, I am not a participant.
I am sorry for the misunderstanding. This stamp was really just for fun and to have something other than MARY-SUE hate stamps that spam dA.
Someone had to take offense eventually, everyone has their own opinions. I apologize you were offended my mine.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Have a nice evening.

And I'm sorry for the mere attack.

But as you said, "I had no intention of insulting anyone" calling someone's character is an act of that subject, and many people find that insulting and offensive.

And I have realized that this reply was about offensiveness, and your criticism.. not about mary-sues. :/

Well anyways, I appreciate the response.

This only pisses more people off from what I know. And when I hear strong feminist characters, I think of muscle girls.

I see your point.

As I understand it, the term "Mary Sue" is basically a female character whom is more or less custom made to be ones personal fantasy ideal female ...

Either their ideal girlfriend (sexy beyond reason, and yet hopelessly loyal to her male counterpart), or a SUPER Female whom is simultaneously a showcase of feminine beauty, while also brimming with extraordinary talents, and thus BETTER Than Everyone Else (besides OTHER Mary-Sues).

---

I have to agree that, though Strong-Females may have been a novel concept back in the 1950's ... they are far from particularly original now, and are themselves a much overused cliche.

A tom-boy, pro-feminist who rejects the antiquated oppressive attitude of males and bravely and stubbornly stands as an equal, and second to NO ONE, no matter who they are. Tough as nails, Strong, Self-Sufficient ... the cliche "Strong Female" character.

I feel there are places for very good characters fitting the descriptions of both to be played and used in stories (I tend to frequently have a mix of both in many of my OWN story and character ideas), but you are absolutely right.

"Mary-Sue" and "Anti-Mary-Sue" fans are both a little too fond of their respective stereotypes, and could both afford to let their characters be a little less "PERFECT", in their personal views and preferences. ... as well as laying off those whom happen to prefer one or the other.

Originality does not exist any more ... every kind of character possible has already been done 1,000 times or more each. Stop whining already.

I support this Stamp.

Strangely enough, as I look through the comments on this, I can't help but think that I have almost a completely different definition of a "Mary-Sue". These women -and their male counterparts, "Gary-Stu's-" are completely 2 dimensional characters with almost the same background, personality, "special abilities", and love interest.

While yes, I agree that the MS can be stubborn, generally it's everything else that makes her a Mary-Sue, since stubborn female roles can simply be themselves and not venture into the Mary-Sue archetype. There are characters in media i.e. Disney's Snow White, Bella (Twilight) -which for me, she is the prime beacon of Mary-Sue syndrome- and others that fit the Mary Sue category, while others, like Lizzy Bennet (Pride and Prejudice), are strong female leads but are NOT Mary-Sues, simply because they have a rich, 3 dimensional character and none of the other signs of a Mary-Sue.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I have a very narrow, specific definition of this literary-vomit archetype that we have labeled as a "Mary-Sue" and that not all stubborn female characters necessarily fit into it. Though, I'm sure you've met your fair share on here with the RP's on DA-- I haven't even ventured into that for fear of stumbling into such a problem. You are far more courageous for that.

Stay strong and 3 dimensional. *salute*

Honestly I hate how little equilibrium is. There are some characters that are so blatently Mary Sue and silly....but then there are the 'bitches' who are just so 'strong feminist vampire/werewolf hunters' that they themselves become 2Dimensional characters. I have come a long journey of writing both to even become close to an equilibrium, believable character. But my journey has made it so hard to work on such fantasy-fulfillers I just spend my time only writing canon characters together. That's freaking alot easier.

the one thing to remember is that usually the Mary Suers are so new to writing that you have to remember, you can't write better unless you keep writing and learn. Hahaha.

-pets Kae and Elle- It's okay, guys. I still love you.

There are only so many personality trait combinations out there. Yes, there are a lot of strong-willed, stubborn female characters--but EVERY character type could potentially be said to be overplayed. It's statistically impossible to be so drastically original at this point.

Yeah, it's not that Mary-Sues are original and they aren't. It's that no one is and we shouldn't judge what people chose to play.

And honestly, some archaetypical characters are just plain fun to play (read: dear Tally Boy). They became stock literary types for a reason.

You can tell how informed someone is just by whether or not they throw out the mary-sue label. It means they haven't done their research and are following the crowd on the grounds that its something a collective can hate- yet they don't understand what the term even means anymore. LOL

Its just incredibly sexist, but by the sounds of it the originator of the term has no remorse whatsoever. It's hard to educate the retarded.
