Description .
A bunch of us went up to Mauna Kea the other day.

This was our first devoted trip to astrophotography. We still need to play a lot with Star Streak shots, so I'm planning another overnight trip next time. Can't wait!

Oh btw, see that big blob of blue and white? That's the Milky Way.

I think these star trail photos are really great.

I was planning on going up there once I'm home for the summer to try to do this. Is this from the very top, or the visitor center or something?

I'm not sure if my camera can do it though..

Ah, it's just from the visitors center level. I'd love to shoot from the top but I never seem to have access to a 4wd! What kind of camera do you have?

I have a Pentax K100D. Which is fine for most of my purposes, but not the best.

I'm trying to save up to get a better one, but I'm only about halfway there...

Should be fine, I suspect. I take it that it can do long exposures (over half hour)? What part of the island are you from?

I don't know. I was flipping through the manual and didn't see a way to do exposures longer than 30 seconds...
I might just need to take a whole bunch of shots and combine them all...

..And I'm from Keaau.

The North Star, Polaris! In about 12000 yrs, it will be Vega, another very bright star.

Augh, I've got to try this someday.

I love how it goes from really intense blues to warm yellows.
