Bill invites (and kind of drags) Dipper into the water with him when Dipper, Mabel, Ford and Bill go up to Lake George to relax. Dipper insisted they bring Bill because, having been turned human, he was very upset to be denied the ability to swim in the ocean, and allowing him to swim in the lake was a good compromise.

Bill's scales look different depending on lighting and his mood. When he's in camouflage predatory hunter mode, he's silvery green and silvery gold with stripes and he blends in to the water almost seamlessly. When he's in the sun and happy, he looks like this, gold. He can be in between and he's usually a more muted gold.
