Well, you certainly succeeded in creating the illusion of skin, depth and reflecting light here and I believe the bracelet looks fine--great, in fact

I like your minimalistic concept. And most of all, the shading is so pretty, and of course she has a great ass (said by a female ) I'd like to see bigger anatomy studies in this shading style, you have a great eye for it!

thanks for the compliment, yes i would like to do something bigger (not a bigger ass )

I really like suspense, great job. What paper did you use? i only ask because i can see the tooth quite strongly and im wondering what you might be able to do with bristol board.

I'm using quite normal 120 g/m² paper. It is only a bit thicker than normal printing paper and I like the little rough structure you get when shading with your pencil in a small angle. So far I had some bad experienced when erasing pencil lines, so this paper right now is okay for me. What do you think about this bristol board, it's pretty thick I think?

LAEllis In reply to Gironimo [2014-02-28 18:42:14 +0000 UTC]

Its definitely a progression thing, I first used printer paper then moved up to around 100-120gsm and finally up to between 250-300 i think (i always use watercolour paper) Its all about preference to be honest, if you prefer lighter paper then stick with it.

I wasnt a fan of bristol board at first but i got a supersmooth pad of about 200gsm and tried this drawing on it, it came out ok for a first attempt. The problem i found with watercolour paper and paper with a lot of tooth is that really smooth shading isnt easy and often doesnt work, you just end up ruining the paper. The bristol board is so smooth that you can really work the shading, you can add many smooth layers and really create a shape with a very good gradient. Its definitely worth a try, and persevere because you might end up loving it.

Do you use a kneadable eraser?

Gironimo In reply to LAEllis [2014-03-01 12:22:54 +0000 UTC]

ah thanks for the info I came to a point where I got into painting with watercolours now. Using pencils only you never get finished, and I tend to be so picky about the slightest details that I end up spending 20h plus on an A4 drawing...
Yes I only use kneadable erasers, and only b pencils. H pencils sometimes carve the paper a bit, so I stay with 2b-8b. Well anyway it's always interesting to hear what materials other artists are satisfied with

You did a great job rendering the glutes. It's very difficult shading parts of the body like the breasts, and butt while still retaining that lush texture.
