Description Sooo.... a few weeks ago, while visiting an artist store, I saw they have black sketchbooks. I mean, I don't usually use sketchbooks for drawing, I draw on separate sheets. Black paper, however, is something I get in the form of huuuuuuuuge sheets which need to be cut into pieces to draw on, and that is quite a hassle that not once or twice has postponed the starting of an artwork I have in mind by days, if not even weeks (yeah, I can be lazy). A hassle I'd be happy to avoid. Now, since I no longer consider black paper drawing to be experimental, and I've pretty much fallen in love with it and decided I want to keep drawing on black paper ever so often, finding a normal-sheet-sized sketchbook in black was a double six, as we say in Bulgarian. Pretty much an instant, I gotta get one. So I did. Aaaand, a few weeks later, this happens Could have been sooner, but Hell, I have been so busy....

Sooo.... damn, it's Håkan again. Who else. I mean, drawing him traditionally on normal paper can be a pain. On black paper, it's a breeze. I'm addicted. But then, I am really fond of him and drawing him is honestly a pleasure. Especially if I throw in some epic lighting effects (if possible, multiple sources in multiple colors) and some elemental and/or magickal elements (if possible, more than one). Eh yeah, you know how I like to make my life more complicated when drawing. That said, I'll ascertain once again pencil is not the right media to draw flames with.... which means I'll keep drawing flames with pencil, of course XD Seriously though, I'm rather happy with the blue flames, even if I admit I drew them hastily.
I'll also disclose a little secret regarding drawing this portrait.... something I can easily consider quite the cheating. Not long ago Jayme made a 3D model of Håkan's head. He gave it to me and I used it as reference for his face under this particular angle. It was VASTLY easier and more accurate than putting it together from a zillion different sketches he has of him under different angles. Is it cheating? Nah, I don't really think so. I had a 3D model as reference in exactly the angle I wanted, but that didn't mean the portrait will draw itself. Besides, I had to still figure out the lighting on my own because it seems like Sculptris doesn't have the option to play around with lighting sources. At least I haven't found one yet.

But anyways, enough technicalities. I want to say a word or two about Håkan himself and what this portrait ummm.... portrays. (That's on purpose.) Those of you who know Jayme may have picked up some of the story of Håkan's recent spiritual journey (in which both Jayme and I participated actively) and how it ended with him being liberated and finding his safe way Home. I won't go into details, but ever since those events, I've had the pleasure to talk to him a couple of times and spend some time with him. He is still recovering from the horrors that befell him and he was trapped into, but now, after all this time, his innate power is starting to shine within him again. Soemthing I feel and truly admire, something I feel kindred. So I drew this for him, to show him what his spirit feels like to me - majestic, powerful, proud. Reborn. Naturally, the blue flames are the Hellfire, by which he grows ever more powerful now. The golden light he is facing is the Light of Lucifer. So in a way, could be said, this is him standing in the beginning of a whole new journey, one in which the power of Hellfire will always be with him and the Light of Lucifer will always shine upon his spirit.

So in a way, this can be seen as a sequel to this portrait:

Reference: 3D model of Håkan.
Also, of course, this sheet:

2B invisible pencil; polychromos color pencils.
20 x 30 cm black paper. About 2 hours.

Thank you so much, dear friend! I like seeing him like that, but this is also what he feels like to me. I feel this power within him.

But yeah, it's pretty nice to draw on black paper - especially when drawing black siderians XD In any case, lighting effects come out really dramatic on it and in a much more intuitive way than on regular paper. And I'm addicted to lighting effects, lol XD
Also, I actually finished the drawing a couple of days later, lol. I did draw most of it on 25th though, just had to refine it some later. It always so happens that I discover flaws after I scan it.

P.S. About the Norwegian letters, I actually have Norwegian language (Bokmål) added as a keyboard setting on both the computers I use. Also handy when writing in Norwegian, lol. Otherwise, you can write it the old-fashioned way, where å actually was written as aa instead - so Håkan would be Haakan. Even if that doesn't look so right really :/

Are we the same person if we bought a black paper sketchbook a few weeks ago too? AAAHHHHH!!!
I actually still haven't used it yet, but just seeing this is getting me inspired to use it with my Prismacolors and pastels 8D.

Hrmm I remember seeing that character before in plenty of your friend's work a few times before, I don't quite remember their stories other than what I've just read from your description on this Håkan character.I find many of that Siderian feline creature art really cool and astonishingly beautiful with everything else, it seems all of them have a very interesting yet spiritually said background journeys that makes them who they are. I really like them ahh so fluffy too!

AHAHAH seriously?! XD That's amazing mate, ahhh, I am curious to see what you'd come up to and how black paper will agree with you :3

Yeah, he came strongly in Jayme's focus since last year, and a lot of things happened, especially when I went to visit them in Norway back in October.... and then when they came to visit me here, in Bulgaria this May/June. Håkan was trapped by the enemy, but we managed to help him out of there. But maybe better you read from the source, Jayme (FelisGlacialis) has written some of the story around his art:

Pretty amazing art, too, I totally agree.

Same here!

Ah I see now, poor fella having to go through all that pain and torture by the enemy. I hooe he's doing well!
Hrmm I did read he's also soulmate to your friend as well? I never thought one could have a relationship with spiritual beings before, I've been oh so lonely since my break up from two years ago (it still makes me teary and depressed to this day) with someone I deeply loved. These days trying to find a soulmate is impossible because I can't seem to love a human anymore, I hate people! Instead I prefer the comfort of "humaniod" creatures, fur seems to make me feel more safe and warm around them than a hairless human, I find many of these creatures that appear in my mind (well.. actually one of them in particular) to bring me love and just overall security that they really do care for me than anyone else in life. I think I'm getting a bit far ahead of this.>_<

I really love the one with the wings and the other with Lucifer as the shining lion (am I correct Or not?), there were many others I loved from your friends gallery. It appears one pic did show Lucifer as a dragon as well, is it possible He can show Himself as non-human forms as well by your and friend's experience may I ask? The art makes me wish I had skills like that now.

Yes, he is in Hell now, safe and resting, feeling so much better and he grows stronger by the day. He is really restoring his powers, and that has a very positive effect on Jayme too. When I to him in June, I could barely recognize the faint being I had last seen back in October before. He was SO MUCH MORE powerful!

Mate, I know EXACTLY how you feel. At some point I realized I can't try love a human either. Then I just stopped even trying because all they ever brought me was a huge disappointment. Instead.... Well yes, you certainly can have a relationship of any kind with a spiritual being. In fact, I am in a relationship like that for what is nearly 5 years by now - and it's made me ineffably happy. In Jayme's case with Håkan though, it's not a romantic relationship, they are more like brothers.

Yes, I love these two as well.... though I love them all actually, it's difficult to pick favourites.... (And yes, you're correct. Well, strictly speaking, Lucifer has taken the form of a siderian there as well, but that's close enough to lion.)
Well, He certainly can take non-human forms, of course. The Demons as a rule can easily assume different appearance, they are very powerful and skilled in the spiritual ways after all. Lucifer is no exception. He does prefer to appear humanoid to me (for personal reasons), but generally He has the custom when He appears to a different being to assume a form that is more akin to that being. In a way, it makes it easier for other beings to perceive Him; and in a way, this is also His way to show respect for other forms of Life. That last is something very deep for Him.

That's good to know, why would anyone hurt such a beautiful creature is beyond me honestly. I'm just glad he's doing alright in Hell.

Daww nice, well I dunno what relationship I'd like but I'm more of a loving and cuddly type than a full-blown sexual deviant anyways, apart from my unusual love for other worldly creatures. Oh they're more like brothers, oopies My bad. X3

Ah alright then, that's really sweet actually to know that. I do sometimes imagine He could be something like a shining golden Dragon (similar to easterndragon) since the dragon sacred to Lucifer after all. But I tend imagine like in your portraits of him as humaniod with long hair mostly. I'm glad to know this.

Because of his inner strength and power - and of course his unyielding allegiance to Lucifer. The enemy will attempt to destroy any being that is potential danger, especially if said being is His ally.... I've seen that far too often to doubt it, including upon friends and myself.

Hahah, that's me as well

For some reason I've always believed the Dragon would come the closest to His native form and appearance.... and I mean, not because I'm a dragon myself. By now, a few others have also independently supported that notion, Jayme included (FelisGlacialis - I mean, you may have spotted his painting of Lucifer as a Galactic Dragon), and now you too.

Oh dear, well I hope one day the enemy shall be no more to hurt the innocent.

Definitely explains alot then.

On another note; do you use dark colours first or light colours to lay down first on black paper out of curiosity?

lapis-lazuri In reply to XenoCreations [2019-08-02 11:09:33 +0000 UTC]

That's what we fight for.

On black paper, I always start with the darkest colors and built up to the highlights - pretty much reverse to what I do on white paper. Of course it's not linear and sometimes I add more dark colors later on, to make some areas more solid or add more detail / color in the shadowy parts. But generally that's the principle.
I also noticed that while I am keen on having a variety of dark colors and hues for white paper drawing, just the same I need a variety of bright colors for black paper. It's just curious how drawing on both is reverse in so many ways.

XenoCreations In reply to lapis-lazuri [2019-08-02 11:18:54 +0000 UTC]

Ah so it's what I do on white as well, except I SLIGHTLY add the midtone colour base first before starting from dark to light. But your explanation will help me as well!^^

lapis-lazuri In reply to XenoCreations [2019-08-02 11:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm.... what I meant for white paper is reverse - I draw from the light colors to the dark. Highlights are somewhat an exception because I give them special attention and finish them up last usually. But I generally go from light to dark on white paper because that's the way to grade shading and hues more effectively.
