Absolutely incredible!  The textures are all done in UF?  I know you are an expert with UF textures and this is pretty mindblowing!

This just goes to show that there's no reason for greyscale to be any less exciting than colourful work. The mix of textures, shapes, details, shadows and accents, not to mention the variety in shades of grey, adds up to a very interesting piece of work! It *does* remind me of that Klingon weapon, which I think is called a Batleth - no, I'm not really a Star Trek geek, but it's amazing what stuff sticks in the brain

LaPurr In reply to mintyfresh [2009-02-24 22:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I like the idea of a fractal Batleth.

Greyscale can be difficult at times but I return to it again and again in the same way that photographers turn to black and white images. Strong shapes and good contrast are key to a decent image when there is a lack of color to draw (or distract?) the eye and not all images lend themselves to greyscale.

I'll tell you now, I missed these works. Glad to see you still around too.

On to the picture: when I first saw the metallic arcs in the spiral they immediately looked like little robotic bugs to me. The main crescent being like their "shell" and the red jewel in center being their hand. All space invaders style. That's neat.

I also like the entire metallic atmosphere you have here. Lots of bolts, even those not placed in the background, and very sharp sharps give it that techy appearance. Not to mention the colour-scheme. It's solid, and I love it :V

Fascinating! I'm not sure why but it brings to mind an old video highlighting computer animation, "Beyond the Mind's Eye" I think it was called, that had a sequence on robots in love. I suppose because it had the same theme of steel-acting-biological that I'm getting from this piece.

Velvet--Glove [2009-02-05 23:46:03 +0000 UTC]

Some nice brushed metal textures going on here and the background plaque, complete with screws and the a hint of a hammered finish, is a great backdrop. I like the little touches of vibrant red/orange on an otherwise greyscale image too, they provide little areas of highlight and interest without detracting from the main metallic theme too much.
