But, if you turn off all the lights, it'll get dark. So darkness can exist without light. Dark is the absence of light.
Am I missing something?

1: Darkness cannot exist without light because it requires light to be contrasted to. If everything ever were of an equal shade, the very concept of something being light, or dark, would no longer exist.
2: Light creates darkness by its being - a shadow is formed by the light, just as darkness must exist around light for it to be seen. Both rely on each other - not necessarily always in order to exist, but in order to be describable, or understandable.
