Description I collect all things Ariel (unless they are really horribly painted/sculpted and I can't fix them myself) and have numerous dolls that looked ridiculous laying/sitting around my room so I decided to fix that and make use of the empty boxes they came in.

The background is made from the box backgrounds that came with these dolls. The sand is real as are many of the shells. The rock/shell thingy is some sort of Ariel hair salon (Flounder is perched near the working showerhead lol) that I repainted as pink looked laughably out of place. Ariel's collection of human things are actually Barbie props.

I think I had the left one as a kid as well :3 she was one of my favourite dolls (loved her red hair).

I love the red hair too. And that she could breathe under water.

She is awesome. Check places like Wal-Mart or K-Mart. Or places that carry last year's stuff like Big Lots.

And I can get a doll like that? SWEET!!! Thanks a lot! Hey, what about Toys R Us? They have everything lol And if I work there they'd give me a discount. Even sweeter!

They might very well still have her - she's Shimmering Lights Ariel. The Toys R Us closest to me is really small and doesn't carry a lot of the stuff the larger stores do I hope you find her!

Unfortunately, I don't have any that I'm willing to part with. If you can't find her in store- look online at Target, Walmart, or Toys R Us. If you don't have a credit card you can get a gift card at the store and use it to pay online orders.

Let me know if you get her! Good luck!

The eyes on the right side one are fantastic, imho, but I prefer the hair on the one on the left side...I've been staring at some of the Disney Princess barbies lately, and they all seem SO different, like no one can decide on a good head mold they want to use. Which do you think is the best one?

Honestly, I think the best molds were the ones that Tyco put out in the early 90's, though the current Mattel dolls probably have the better body shape. I'm with you on how varied the molds are; it seems ridiculous actually. lol

I was recently comparing the Mattel Ariels with the Tyco Holiday Ariel I have (had one when I was little, dog chewed her hands off, had to get a new one on ebay ) I think Tyco did do an overall better job capturing Ariel's "essence". I'm suppose to be getting another 90's Ariel in the next few days ('nother ebay find of a doll I had when I was little and the dog ate). She was made by Applause and was one of the very first LM dolls on the market. Even though her face paint and hair are more realistic that any current dolls, I think she may be the very best. I'll have to inspect her closely when I get her.

I was at Toys 'r' Us yesterday looking for the new Bert doll and stopped at the Disney princess display. I'm convinced that they use the same molds on a lot of their dolls, regardless of which princess it is!

I have to admit I only own two ariel dolls myself, one being an early 90s, the other a late 90, early 2000s...not really sure. The newer one is Mattel, and I like the body shape much better, and the hair. Face isn't bad, but its too narrow...or...something. Chin's too pointy to be Ariel, anyways, but the hair is great and eyes are good. The old one, though, was this one: [link] The seller says Mattel, but others have said Tyco. I can't find her, so who knows. Unfortunately, I cut all her hair off as a small child. (No idea. I tended to go scissor happy. Did the same thing to my Beast-as-Prince Ken doll.)

THESE suckers, though, scare the tar out of me: [link]

My best friend is at the point where she just smiles and nods anytime I get near a princess doll section of a toy store...of course, I'm usually complaining about Belle's eye colour rather than face paint jobs. Have you ever noticed that, though? Belle's eyes seem brown most of the way through the movie, but just about every doll ever made gave her green eyes. (Not that I'm complaining, I have green eyes, so that suited me just fine.) The lack of consistancy is...strange, though, especially for a company like Disney.

Ah! lol, I'll shut up and stop rambling now.

No, no, ramble on please. You know I've often wonder how a company like Disney can allow such shoddy, sub-par work bears its name and image; not just in dolls, but in almost anything. I think it's because they give the license to whoever is willing to pay for it and they don't particularly care about how it looks. IMO. I also think that in general Disney's products like coloring books or other things that use the animated, 2D images are poorly drawn. I can only think of a few instances where I couldn't pick a major flaw in one of the characters. And I've only really noticed this in the "human" variety of characters. I have a Disney princess coloring book that I occassionally use for reference, but every Princess has something off about her features. I would think that it would easy to duplicate a 2D image. ??? But I guess if you can't get the 2D, the 3D isn't going to be any better.

It's funny you should mention the Belle doll. I used to work at the YMCA in child care and one of my co-workers was as big a Belle fan as I am an Ariel fan. When she left for college, I got her a Belle doll (can't remember which one) as a going away gift. I always knew there was something wrong with it, other than the hairstyling (I actually took her out of the box and fixed the hair. lol) But it was the eyes- they WERE the wrong color!

I hate those new Disney dolls and the weird way they're made. I notice bath towels or something awhile back with Ariel drawn in a similar style. What are they thinking?!?!?!

That is a Tyco Ariel. A friend in second grade had that exact one. I think Mattel bought out Tyco so maybe that's why she marked her as Mattel.

I know way too much about this stuff!
