Description Oil on board, 27X35 cm. It looks a bit grainy but that's not from the photo, it's the texture of the board.
I used this colour cause I had rests of oil I had used in other things. And it was gonna get dry and I hate wasting paint

The way I see the girl from the color tone is that she is alone, dark and is seeking atonement or deep down salvation. Her face is really clear and the graniness I think, is great for this painting.

I love the olive tones, kind of gives me a morbid feel, but still beautiful.

I want to try a painting with one tonal range now

Even though it comes off as monotone, it's far from it. Really eye catching and beautiful.

The darkness of this painting really drew me in to look closer. It's lovely. The olive and ochre tones reminded me of Rembrandt and the dutch painters. The paint wasn't wasted at all.

Thank you! And you've found the perfect word to describe this colour: olive. That's exactly it! And that reminds me of Spain, so this will be my Spanish girl

msklystron In reply to laurart [2009-05-31 01:13:34 +0000 UTC]

Spanish she is. You've inspired me to try my own hand at creating something in olive. I like to sneak hints of it into skintones too.

Really like the way you're able to build a piece up using different tones of colours it really gives each of your pieces a different and very individual feel.

littlefishey [2009-05-24 02:20:49 +0000 UTC]

Beautiful, once again.

Now this one has a fantastically antique look to it, mostly due to the texture of the board. It reminds me of the way old paint 'crackles' over time.

Her face is a picture of serenity.

laurart In reply to littlefishey [2009-05-24 02:34:22 +0000 UTC]

I usually do very bright paintings, so it was a nice change to do something more calm and dark (I mean the colours) . So it's very pleasing that people enjoy it too.
Thank you very much

Sindae [2009-05-24 01:48:23 +0000 UTC]

She has a wonderful sense of serenity around her. I quite like the colour as well, it gives her an unearthly quality.

I'm not sure what's going on at the bottom of the painting, but I think the rather jagged brush strokes contrast too sharply with the rest of the image.

Your subtle use of lighting never ceases to amaze me, like her skin is made of some shimmering emerald.

laurart In reply to Sindae [2009-05-24 01:56:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I was afraid of the strong colour at first, but with the subtle light it doesn't look too "Hulk"

It's sort of a fluffy sweater I invented . I rather like that contrast, if it was too smooth it would have been too much softness, and I wanted the skin to have that role in the picture. But I get what you mean, so I guess it's a matter of taste

Thank you very much for the comment

Sindae In reply to laurart [2009-05-24 02:04:17 +0000 UTC]

She's more like the inverse hulk.

I see what you were going for now, sort of like many angora sweaters. Those things scare me, and now I know they come from this: [link] Which I can not stop laughing at.

Haha, yes

Link is not working for me, is it a picture of the Angora goat? They're funny looking
