One from my running route: this is the view from the Burrard Bridge looking out at the Pacific ocean and down on Vanier Park. Key buildings are the Haida-hatted Planetarium and the Maritime museum. There is also a ubiquitous red-bottomed freighter in the distance framed by layers of mountains and scuddy clouds. Mind you, this is more what the view would look like if one were hovering above and squeezing the whole thing, accordion-like, as evidenced by my more panoramic but less colourful reference photo .

I have yet to see one of the famous laser light shows at the H.R. Macmillan space center . Apparently this is quite the thing to do if you have ingested any of our local hallucinogenic specialities.

I was trying to do something more soothing with this scene, but I guess I just can't do placid and calm. Everything vibrates to me.

Yes! This is awesome. I live right down the street from the planetarium, in the highrise at the end of the bridge (yes, the ugly green one). You've captured this so perfectly!

I always hated that ugly green building (mostly for the tin foil window treatments) but then I started thinking that it's so distinctive, I run by it every other day... It needs to be a painting at some point.

I bet you have an awesome view, too.

I totally agree. I'd love to see your take on the building.

My view is quite nice. I'm in one of the apartments facing west, so I see all of Kits and some really gorgeous sunsets. Living there, I totally understand the tinfoil in the windows-- the windows take up so much wall space that the apartments that face the sun all day become very hot without a way to reflect the warmth.

Thanks! The building is actually based on a style of hat worn by the Haida tribe. It does look like a mushroom here, though! Ha. That is also appropriate.

I absolutely love the style of your paintings! The swirly clouds are awesome, as is the sea. Great colours as well, so bright :D
It's amazing how you can draw this from that reference photo!

Hey, thanks. It is fun being exaggerated and bright - steers the eye away from my lack of detail and ability to render a scene and/or perspective acurately!

LOL

This is gorgeous. I don't think I've ever been there in particular.

I absolutely adore the swirly clouds and sky. The shades of blue you chose are lovely. I also love that vibrant green you used for the grass. It reminds me of the positive aspects of summer.

The water looks like it has a lot of depth.

Great work.

Thanks! I do love a serene summer sky. This place (Vanier Park) is usually the epitome of summer. Lots of kite flying, boating, and joggers - not just over-mushroomed teens profounded in their tracks by 'Floyd.

It is indeed for sale. I'm just building up show inventory right now. Based on the size, I've got it listed at $800.

Could you BOTTLE some of that talent, and send it my way?

Wow!! Absolutely brilliant! Your use of colour is fantastic. I'm so happy everything vibrates to you, it's what makes you so unique! I have to say, I wish I had that running route. Mine is filled with cows and that wonderful scent of manure baking in the sun!

We have one day, one awful stay in the house with the windows closed day of pig manure being spread at the pig farm behind us. It's pretty disgusting! Sometimes I miss the city!
