Description
Jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon, bordering Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland. It's still, waters are dotted with icebergs from the surrounding Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, part of the larger Vatnajökull Glacier. The blue colours of some of the icebergs is beautiful. It doesn't last for ever though. As soon as the ice warms up and gets oxygen in it the blue colour quickly fades away. They make some amazing shapes.Related content

I find all of these "blue ice" shots fascinating... But this "tower" is something else!! I can only try to imagine the interaction of wind, water flow and waves - along with temperature changes that have sculpted this beauty... I wonder of the 90% mass that is below the water line

I just read this morning news that many of the big glaciers may have huge holes underneath them,
which might lead to an early collapse for many of them...The article was about glaciers in
Antarctica, but they had no photos as beautiful as this one.
