Description WritingClan Prompt Week 2

Talon That Marked the Night Sky sat outside, just above the cave as the water cascaded down below him. The sun had just slowly started to rising above the skyline, illuminating the entire mountain with a soft glow of blue and orange. So much has happened in the last moon that he hasn't been up to his favorite spot in moons. His To-Be had completed his training and was now a cave guard. And his own mate Snow that Melts at Sun High was a Kit-Mother in the nursery, ready to have his kit any in several season changes, now. Though through all the good events there had been bad as well. Stoneteller had gotten very sick and the entire Tribe had been on edge for the last couple of days do to his sick ness. A lot of the prey hunters hadn't been bringing much prey back and the snow storms had more or less trapped the cats into the cave for a very long time. But now that the weather was finally warming up Talon was able to stretch his legs out and climb to one of the highest peaks of the mountain by himself which he knew was dangerous but he just had to get away. In the time of need the Tribe had looked to him for leadership and the presser had been unbearable. He had to take a break, to let the wind touch his whiskers and the snow settle on his fur. He knew Stoneteller would get better, but with his kits so far away and Snow the only queen in the nursery he was very worried for his kittens. As much of an Honor it would be to be the tribe Healer, if one of his kits were chosen. They would never be allowed to leave the cave, the would never feel the fresh wind against their fur, never feel the sun. Never fight enemies or kill prey. Forever confined to a life behind the waterfall.

Talon shuddered at the thought before standing up and stretching. Letting out a little sigh he headed down the path back to the cave. Watching his pawfooting his carefulling made his way down ready for a long day of protecting prey-hunters. Ducking behind the waterfall he noticed his Tribe already getting ready. Prey-hunters where stretching their limbs ready for day out hunting, and to-be’s bounced up and down ready for a day of adventure. Talon’s whiskers twitched, and pride filled his chest as he looked over the cats he had known his entire life. Feeling silly for earlier thoughts. If any of his kits were be lucky enough to be chosen as a Healer, they would always have this feeling of pride and honor of severing the Tribe as best as possible as its Leader, and any cat would be lucky to be Stoneteller.

“Talon.” A voice behind him made him jump. Turning around the tom purred a greeting to the to the pastel slim brown tabby, leader of the prey hunters, Hawk that Nests with Stars. She was a sight to behold, with her small but sure paws and sharp yellow eyes and small yet noticeable white tail tip. She always had a way of making the tom’s heart beat like an eagle's’ wing beat, unfortunately she had chosen another as her mate, and Talon had never been able to confess his true feelings. Though he loves Snow, Hawk would always be his light after each storm.

“Hawk, you ready to gather a group?” He smiled a little, looking forward to a day of light and no snow storms with the she-cat. Though to his surprised she shook her head and sat down.

“I am ready to leave, you however, need to go talk to Stoneteller. She was asking for you a pawful of rabbit hops ago. It sounded important.”

‘My kits! Did she receive a message? Does she already know which kitten to pick?’ So many thoughts raced through his head that without even saying a word, Talon brushed passed Hawk. His paw steps thudded against the cave floor, ignoring every cat who called out to him he made his was into The Cave of Pointed Stones. Slowing down his pawsteps he saw his leader curled up but the rocks, watching the fresh water from the melting snow pool and drip into the cave, she looked peaceful almost. Her deep grey fur with black splotches seemed quiet groomed, giving Talon some hope that she had gotten better. But as she spoke he knew that he was far from correct. Her voice came out very rasped and harsh as if the sickness had still not left her.

“Talon, thank you for coming...” The tom dipped his head in respect “I have much to talk to you about…”

“Is it about my kits? Have you received a sign from The Tribe of Endless Hunting?” He rushed out, to excited to keep his voice steady.

Stoneteller looked confused for a moment before she shook her head and looking up at the small opening of the cave top.

“This is my last life, Talon….and I am dying….”

Talon stumbled back slightly, shock hit him like an avalanche of snow. Looking at his leader he could see what she was saying was true. Her ribs where showing more prominently, her eyes seem so sunken in and even here under the small amount of sunlight, there was very little light in usually vibrant green eyes. At this point desperation creeped in. His kits weren't even close to being born and there was no kitten in the nursery. Who would be the next leader? Stoneteller lifted her head and leaned forward with a small smile.

“From this moment on...you, Talon that Marked the Night Sky, will be the Tribe’s new Teller of the Pointed Stones. You are young, and strong and your Tribe will look to you for guidance. As they have in the past season.”

Talon, looked at her in disbelief and horror. He couldn't lead his clan! He had a mate! And kittens on the way! How could he leave them? How could he not be a father to the tiny babies he had wanted since Snow had announced them? Stoneteller’s eyes softened as she rested her head on her paws, she was clearly tired.

“Snow will understand….the Tribe will take care of your mate Talon….But they can only do that if you are there to take care of them. I understand what I'm asking of you is a lot...But they need you…”

Closing his eyes he let all the thoughts of this morning run through his head again. Never being able to feel the wind on his whiskers again. Or the sun on his pelt. But his Tribe needs him. Now more than ever...Without a leader or a healer his Tribe would fall and crumble, lives would be lost...and not only his but the lives of his Tribe Mates and of future generations. Taking a deep breath he opened his eyes.

“I will be Teller of the Pointed Stones.” He whispered. It did not take him long to realized that his beloved leader had passed away, And he was now alone with his thoughts and new found responsibilities of leading his Tribe.
