Description Ever thought that Lizardmen would make an awesome xenos species in 40k? I certainly did!

This is an older conversion idea of mine for a Chaos army that revolved around using converted Lizardmen instead of cultists, on account of it being mentioned multiple times in the fluff of different xenos species being used in Chaos armies, but it’s never really been represented in the tabletop. Plus, I just think Lizardmen are cool.

As things turned out, though, the plans for a Chaos army ended up fading from my attention, and ended up shelved. As a result this little guy was the only product of that idea, and he’s been sitting unpainted in a drawer for the last year or so.

After finally finishing the Blood Raven though, I dug him out, still thought he was cool, and gave him a proper painting so I could show him off. Not sure if I’ll ever make good on the whole Lizardmen cultists idea someday, but for now this’ll do. Maybe I’ll make him a character for a Rogue Trader retinue or something.

    ·         Chaos Cultist combat blade and autopistol

    ·         Space Marine pouches

    ·         Imperial Guard shoulder pad

    ·         Some greenstuff for the belt and bandolier

A:  The Old Ones were reptiles.  In older editions Fantasy Warhammer and 40K were separate history phases of the same universe.  The strange wargear that Lizardmen and Amazons still use is debased Old One tech.  (Check out Amazon Mordheim wargear options:  they have the pricey option of a power sword and laspistol!)  The Slann are their rustic descendants.

Fourth Edition 40K's rulebook mentions the Old One's part in galactic history briefly.  Nearby is a John Blanche sketch of what looks like a Saurus warrior with elaborate armor and some manner of thermal weapon.  It is labelled in-frame as "Slanni."

As I believe my Point A demonstrated:

B:  DON'T CALL NON-STAT DATA AND FLAVOR TEXT "FLUFF."  It's important stuff.  Without it, the games become a boring comparison of die roles and chart references.

A stat line can tell you that a bolter is a superior destructive instrument to a lasgun. 
It won't tell you that a lasgun is as powerful and rugged as an AK-47, and could be repaired in a decently-equipped high-school shop class.  Nor do the stats reveal that lasgun clips can be recharged by exposing them to sufficient heat or light.

I know you meant nothing by it.  But I appreciate the hard work that so many went through to build this unique mythos up from it's Thematic Frankenstein of an original draft.

The phrase just...hits a nerve.

What, what? ...Oh, I see the problem. No, when I called it a "lizardman" I didn't mean "the" Lizardmen from Fantasy ported into 40k (Besides, they're called Seraphon now). These guys were supposed to be something else entirely, hence why I shaved the crest off, and I used the term lizardmen in the generic fantasy sense. You know, the kind of non-specific label creators use when they can't be bothered to call the creatures something unique (or just don't know what to call them at the time, in my case).

I'm actually working right now on returning to and reinventing the concept I had back then, using these little guys as a way to port kobolds into 40k. Got some rudimentary flu- er, lore worked out and just need to get some models made for a species sheet.

Oh, I understood that.  I just find it cool that the Slann are likely direct descendants of The Old Ones.
