Description African lion ( Panthera leo)

The zoo has 3 african lions : a male and 2 lionesses. The male has no tail, and don't ask me why, I don't know. All I know is that these lions where confiscated from a circus where they were mistreated.

By the way, I've seen ligers and tigons up close and personal at a cat sanctuary. When I first saw these beautiful creatures, I was floored by their massive size, especially the HEAD and the PAWS! I literally screamed "That's a liger!" O_O;; Ligers are much, much, bigger than a Bengal tiger and even the African lion. Tigon is smaller than a liger. <_< However, the sizes always varies.

While I don't comment often (to the point of being rare) I feel like I should comment the fact that this is not your typical lion. In fact, this might be a Tigon. The body proportion is what got my attention and plus the spotting on its body and as well as its tail. Tigon are offsprings of a male tiger and a female lion. You can google "Tigon" and "Liger" to find out more about it. Hope this helps a bit! And thank the lord that these poor creatures were rescued...!

No, it's a lioness. I'm sure of it. She has some spotts, that's maybe the cause of your mistake. But a lot of lions, especially females, are spotted even as adults. She was smaller than the male lion, and bigger than the sumatran tigers in the same zoo. That's NOT an hybrid cat.
Did you know I read a lot about big and small cats since 11 years and that I own one the most complete French website about big cats ? I never saw a liger or a tigon myself, we do not have such animals in France ( bu I saw another hybrid, in fact an hybrid between subspecies : european wildcat x domestic cat, a female owned by a friend of mine, born to a domestic mother ). But I know about these cats. I did researches. A lot.
