With this particular design, does the book come out of its cover easily?

Not unless you rip it out.. It's a fixed cover, it's glued onto the signatures.

HI,
I've tried it on reconmanding from my friend, and if you like you can see the result on my deviantart page. I liked by the way your tutorial, it was very clear and very good to follow!!!! And the Japannese paper is stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Don't judge me on my english, it's crap lately.)

Great tutorial!
Is card stock bendable enough that it can be used for the spine instead of leather?

i wouldn't think so... not unless you tried something like soaking it till it's soft, shaping it on something and then letting it dry?? haven't tried it myself, but that's how i'd attack it so thaat it wouldn't crack or crease.. only thing though is it wouldn't stay round, it would definately get bent over time.

Okay, thanks.
I was trying to avoid buying leather (mostly because it's expensive and I prefer to work with faux leather, which I can't find at my craft store).

Nice. Much clearer than a lot of tutorials out there. Just a question though, do you ever have trouble with the cover ripping off because the cover pages aren't strong enough to hold it on?

Used and loved this tutorial!! Thanks for posting it!! I may have totally screwed up on the page stitching part (my fault, not yours XD), but I think it turned out rather well. ^_^
Here's the book I made from this tutorial: [link]

AAAAAHHHH. I'm just about to start on the spine and I realised that I jumped the gun and put some really nice paper where the end sheets are supposed to go. WHAT WAS I THINKING?! I shoulda read through the whole tutorial again before I started. I mean, what I've done looks awesome, it's just a shame that I'll have to go buy the same pack of paper again to be able to do the end sheets... again. LOL.
Ah well.

lollll if you want you can be ~creative~ and only have the endsheet attached to a small strip of the cover?? like... you don't NEED to glue a full sheet onto the cover, you can just glue part of the paper on if you really want. that way you don't need to cover the paper you've already glued on c: does that make sense?
