Description Machairodus(or Amphimachairodus) aphanistus was probably the most widespread species of Machairodus found in many parts of Europe and Asia during the Miocene. The genus Machairodus existed for approximately 11.5 million years.M. aphanistus and the North American M.(Nimravides) catacopis representing the more primitive grade of the genus.
The cat is made for my Iranian plateau scene of the late Miocene(leogon.deviantart.com/art/Iran… ).I hope you like this famous sabretooth!

These are really good images. Do you have 'The big cats and their fossil relatives' by Alan Turner and illustrated by Mauricio Anton?

As you can see I've got lots of fossil big cats in my gallery.

haha love this scene! You're also doing a great job with that pattern. Did you get the proportions from Mauricio Anton's work?

Thanks a lot
Yes and no.I used a picture of the skull for making head and neck but for the body I used several resources including that one.

Thats awesome, Mauricio's got some awesome illustrations but i found that some his skeletal drawings are not all that accurate. D'you think you can send me a couple of sources that describe the body proportions?

Leogon In reply to Smerjeevski [2015-06-10 10:00:56 +0000 UTC]

They are not unavailable! I used the pics that can be found in the first page of google search.Just a mix of them for the best result.
Mauricio tends to improve his cats to the best appearance, besides;some skeletal resources on cats are so incomplete that even an artist like him sometimes has no choice but using his imagination.
Do you intend to make a sculpture of the animal? It would be great!
