Description In Ancient Egyptian mythology, Atum is considered the creator god--he was the first and most important god worshipped at Heliopolis during the Old Kingdom.

The hieroglyphics I used came from the Pyramid Texts found in Unas' tomb. This is the portion of the writing that describes Atum as the "father in darkness." In the book of the dead, Atum is described as both the creator and eventual destroyer of the world. After the creative cycle is over, the world will descend into chaos and nothingness, and Atum (and Osiris) will survive as snakes!

I found a neat webpage that has the English translation of Unas' Pyramid Texts  maat.sofiatopia.org/nun.htm
