Scar prowled into the pride cave with his tail flicking behind him. The lionesses and cubs around were all quiet with solemnness; all except one. Sarabi was crying once again, her face buried into her younger sister's side. Naanda was gently grooming the queen with a paw across her shoulders.
Sarabi had been sobbing on and off ever since she lost her son, her mate and her king- all in one awful afternoon. The lights in her life now gone, she didn't know what to do with herself. Her pride sisters were of course understanding and took care of all the lioness duties that were expected of her. except for one, which scar had on his mind.
  "Sarabi," Scar commanded. "Sarabi, your king is speaking." Naanda couldn't help but glare up at scar as Sarabi shakily looked up.
  "I want an heir," the male stated bluntly. Naanda's brows quickly furrowed, and the other lionesses were appalled. "I need to start training them soon. as we all know, anything can happen." Scars smooth voice was like a shrill cicada in Sarabi's ear.
  "What are you on about, Scar? Leave her alone!" Sarafina barked. Scar shot her a quick snarl.
  "Well, she is the queen, after all. It is her duty." Scar grinned down at Sarabi, who buried her face into Naanda's brown fur with a loud sob. The younger lioness unsheathed her claws as she gripped Sarabi protectively and snarled at the dark-maned lion.
  "How DARE You?! Can't you see she's grieving?!" she roared. Her tail flicked angrily. Scar snarled again and stepped closer to her.
  "I am too, aren't I? I lost my nephew and my closest brother!" Scar feigned sadness with a bow of his head. he made sure to shut his eyes tightly to sell the pain. "We are all grieving their loss, but life must go on! and I need an heir." he opened his eyes again and stared at Naanda, now at eye level. "If you think she isn't ready, I'll need someone else to do her duties..."
  Naanda huffed and shook her head. She stared down at her weeping sister and tried to stay quiet, but those evil green eyes were glaring into her skull. "I'll do what's needed. Just... let her rest."
  "Good. Come see me tonight then." Scar stood upright and padded back out of the cave, every lioness staring him down as he left.
