Description
In the pridelands, being queer just wasn’t acceptable for the longest time. Only during Simba’s reign were things even slightly more open- though that didn’t mean everything was suddenly perfect. Many still hid any feelings they had, especially since they don’t have labels to understand all of them.
so keep in mind, these are the labels these lions WOULD use if they lived in a world like ours. But they don’t, and I’ll explain how they do live.
Sarabi: Sarabi would consider herself asexual. She just isn’t interested in the physical aspect of relationships, but would still be heteroromantic. She falls in love, and will do what’s needed to have cubs, but she just isn’t a fan of the experience. This had caused slight tension in the early years of hers and Mufasa’s relationship, but the two worked it out and simply had one cub in later years.
Mohatu: Mohatu understood the feelings he had; but was very ashamed of them. Mohatu was gay and unable to be open with himself or anyone else about it. He only chose a female mate in his mid aged years, and had one cub with her. He did love her, but nothing like he’d love a mate. The king lived a long time, and never truly fell in love.
I wanted to cover some lions i hadn’t covered heavily before, but don’t worry! I have more happy art planned for pride month.
