Description

It's one of them so-called vantage points!

Did this at work and at home, especially last night when all the callers were mean people who yelled a lot

While working on this I was reading "The Mysteries of London" by Reynolds, "The Wrecking Crew" by Hamilton, and "The Shame of the Cities" by Steffens I've been watching early black & white episodes of "The Saint" with Roger Moore

I love the shading and highlights in this! The red also pops and contrasts well against the greens.

Don't let the mean people get you down...feel pity for them, they are obviously unhappy.

I know they're sometimes good people at a bad moment or folks who are suffering

and can't deal with it... but there's other times where it's folks who are doing a job

like we are, yet they try and direct their frustrations at us...

We had a guy this week who, instead of de-escalating a fairly stupid problem

with his customer, chose instead to call and scream at us for something that was

basically nobody's fault

Yeah, some people have bad

judgement or they simply don't think

that there might be a simpler way

of doing things.

Spirit! Thank you, buddy! It's so hard to know whether I'm going too soft or too dark The whole shape of the picture comes from a photo I took of ripped paint on a men's room wall 3 years ago... although I cheated a little with the branches and vines Do you think it looks true enough to 1960 illustration?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spiritofdarkness In reply to leothefox [2018-08-05 15:48:58 +0000 UTC]

oh, vines ... now that you say it

yea, I know what you're talking about sometimes I like the color intensity of my stuff and a couple of hours later, after a break, I just thing "is this a joke?"

finding the golden mean is always the art ... and than you see it on another monitor or program and simply want to scream

yea, to dark isn't a good idea ... especially on old monitors (but that's not my case )

hmm... 60ies ... yea, it goes int that direction

leothefox In reply to Spiritofdarkness [2018-08-06 00:01:02 +0000 UTC]

I'm never sure since my laptop tends to show

stuff less saturated and lower contrast, but my

desktop shows it more baked and saturated looking

I keep trying to get the look of Frazetta's early

cover paintings

Anyhow, there's got to be some recipe to

make them somehow look good on anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spiritofdarkness In reply to leothefox [2018-08-08 16:08:02 +0000 UTC]

.... yeah, this recipe is called ICC profile, how much it works we see, not everybody/everything uses  the same and the hardware itself shows different results at the same color profile (nod to mention dumb software)

by the way, I'm using the Adobe RGB (1998)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to Spiritofdarkness [2018-08-08 16:13:30 +0000 UTC]

I have never heard of that

before, how does it work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spiritofdarkness In reply to leothefox [2018-08-08 17:26:43 +0000 UTC]

yea, the big tragedy is that most of the people never heard about it

I know about this stuff, because I've learned a bit about it yeas ago during my study

most cameras are using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 - the "s" stands for super but that's confusing, the one I use has more colors in his table, there are also some which include even more colors (up to 32 bit/channel), but that's something that most of the software/hardware doesn't use

you also have to configure your general color system in windows (or at least check it out)

if you're using PS check it out under edit -> color system or edit  -> assign profile (or edit -> convert profile just to see what it can mean)

the .icc data on your system can also be used by windows (usually you have to search after it, and logically you have this opportunity after you have installed e.g. photoshop)

It sounds like a headache, really. Although I

think one of my problems is just the laptop itself. When

I got it I kept trying to get an adequate brightness and

contrast, but I couldn't manage it with the limitations of

the hardware.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spiritofdarkness In reply to leothefox [2018-08-08 17:45:45 +0000 UTC]

yea, wait with the headache when you wan to check out the setting

the best thing is when each software has it's own colors, only perceptible when you open the same image near each other with different programs

yes, hardware problems are the "greatest" and even the best when they come slowly
