Description The RMS Aquitania is the sister of Lusitania and Mauretania. Unlike her sisters she much bigger and follows the White Star Line's image of large and luxourious. She is also slower than her older sisters.

Aquitania served as a Hostpital Ship druing WW1 and a troop transport in WW2. She lasted until 1949 where she was retired shortly after a piano fell through the deck, showing her age. In 1950 she was scrapped. By the time of her scrapping, she was the last of the great 4 funnled Oceanliners.

Edit: Added some details from what i seen from a CUNARD Poster featuring the Aquitania

Edit 2: Modified the hull, increased water level and reduced gap between portholes.

Aquitania was not a sistership to Lusitania & Mauretania. Sisterships are built to the same plans and are very similar to each other. Aquitania was 1/3 larger than her "cousins" and fitted out in a very different matter.

Back then, classes were different. They didn't have to be the same.Only if classes were the same,*sighs*,I would be one happy person.

The "piano falling through her deck" has never been proven and is probably an exaggeration, if it happened at all.

Aquitania was retired because she was redundant in the post-WW2 Cunard fleet and would have required a thorough overhaul after December 1949 to remain in service. Β

I heard of her before, but i just saw her when watching "Flyboys", a movie about fighter pilots in WWI, then i searched about her. She was very beautiful and it's sad that she no longer exists. So much history for all the years of service at the seas.

wait...Aquitania was in "Flyboys"? I'll have to watch it...because knowing me, I'll criticize them if they get her appearance wrong.Β

It's a very quick shot at the beginning of the movie, around 5 minutes, here: puu. sh/cbREP/4f334e3b49 .png. (The damn DeviantArt thinks it's spam everytime i use a link, god dammit...)

this is amazing! but correct me if i'm wrong, the black section at the top of the funnel seems too short, on the real thing the level of black comes down slightly lower?

I used the funnels from my Lusitania but the references I saw showed funnels like that, it was hard to find a good reference since she's not that we'll known, I didn't know she existed until not long before I did the pic.

The front cowl vents remind me of your Raise the Titanic picture because it also feature tall cowl vents.

Lex-the-Pikachu In reply to AceNos [2012-06-13 08:37:21 +0000 UTC]

the Raise the Titanic model was altered so it had a smillar appearance to the live action ship they used for when onboard her

Lusitaniafan1 [2012-05-08 00:27:00 +0000 UTC]

it's weird if you notice she looks like Britannic in WW1 and then looks like Olympic painted in dazzle camouflage in WW1 then later on looks like titanic with the same paint style as the picture only with orange instead of red on her funnels (I think). Aquitania WAS the last 4 stacker.

Quarteon01 [2011-01-05 11:53:21 +0000 UTC]

She's called "Ship Beautiful". But she had too many too many cowl ventilators. And the ones on the bow made her look a bit strange when I saw the photographs. And are her funnels that long?

Lex-the-Pikachu In reply to Quarteon01 [2011-01-05 17:14:53 +0000 UTC]

don't know but the funnels are the same ones i used on my Lusitania and Mauretania pics

hmmm, I was under the impression that Aquintania was originally a German vessel taken as a spoil of war after WW1 to replace the Lusitania.

I must be thinking of a different ship, I'm kinda rusty on my Cunard History

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lex-the-Pikachu In reply to Railwolf [2010-05-12 09:06:13 +0000 UTC]

Yea, i remember a ship that was taken from the germans, can't remember which one though. Aquitania was built in the image of the CUNARD's rival's White Star Olympic class for size and luxury.

Ah, it was the Hapag line "Imperator" which Cunard renamed "Berengaria" [link]

(i'm sorry for bringing back thisΒ  7 year post)
There was also a White Star Liner that the germans gave to them to replace either Britannic or another lost white star liner.
