The Garguelus dragonella is an extinct species from Europe. It gained fame in the 6th Century when Saint Geneviève of Paris was credited with driving at least one away for le Isle de Cite. Once common on mountainsides and rocky crags from the Pyrenees to the Carpathian Mountains they were gradually isolated into small mountain redoubts. In Medieval times they were associated with the rise of Gothic cathedrals to which they were attracted. Considered a nuisance like roosting pigeons, they were hunted to extinction.
