Another Christmas gift >w< This one is for the lovely ~Autumnal-Husky It's been a while since I've last painted anything, I guess I got too used to cell shading and visible linearts XDD But this was really fun and I love how it turned out, I guess I should paint more often >w< I hope you like it, Ellie!

how do you do this? do you sketchf irst and then colour underneath?

But when coloring I pay attention how it looks without a sketch and make sure the edges look nice. I make a very thin sketch that isn't visible well so I don't focus on the sketch too much and rather try to make it look good without a sketch.Β

Ahh wellll
I kinda need help with how to do proper cell shading, highlighting, and bgs. I can't draw and shade bgs to save my life XP

Try finding some tutorials, they're often every useful, especially for backgrounds X3
As for cell shading, I'm not really sure how can I help you with it since it depends a lot on style so I guess experimenting a lot to see what works best is a good idea ^^ And you can always ask me for critique as well ^^
Highlighting is quite simple, I usually just make a layer above the shading one, set it to overlay or color dodge and use a soft brush and a color similar to the light source to make highlights. I suggest you not to overdo them
