Did I mention that I'm an idiot?This is a map I made for my project at school. It's the country where my fantasy story Startwins takes place.
I drew an old map ages ago but since I wasn't pleased with most of the names I decided to do it all over again... and BOY did I do it.
This is watercolour pencils on tea coloured paper and the text is written by hand by me with dark brown ink ...and let me just mention that I LOVE writing with real ink like this.
And yes, those are burnt edges are real. I make my classmates so incredibly nervous since they always think that I will torch the thing
The whole map measures a whopping 75x54 cm... so it's basically something I can put on my wall, yes
(And I probably will)It was a fun process... and I realised that I need to use my watercolour pencils more often...
I LOVE mountains.

De tror att man ska klanta sig och bränna upp hela skiten, vilket KAN hända om man inte är försiktig. Men då måste man vara riktigt klantig. Jag hade aldrig några problem med det, även om fingrarna blev lite svedda ibland

It's beautiful - the shading of the mountains, that light lining around every shore, both give the map a feeling of plasticity. But upon looking closely I must say my absolutely favourite part are the evergreen trees. Halfway between lifelike and adorably soft, they are just perfect.

Heh... I hate the trees x'D I really HATED painting them and don't like them at all.
The mountains were fine but the forests were a pain!

No seriously, I love your work for being thought through and executed with stubborn will to the very best end you are capable of at the time. I am not one for maps much, but this looks like something I would love to have created for my own main world. (I just want it to be on skin, which is very stupid idea indeed)
Maybe at the time when I will finally make up my mind about what the hell is on the other continents of my play world, I might be actually able to sit down and try to be somewhere near this awesome at drawing it

This time it did take quite a lot of effort since I used both paper and pencils I wasn't quite accustomed to. But it turned out fine in the end ^_^
And I'm actually pretty GLAD it's not on skin

Ahhhhhh this looks super awesome! I love your writing ^^ I've been wanting to draw out the world in my story like this for the loooongest time but I haven't set aside the time to do so....and I must find some big tea-colored papers somewhere....

I tea-colour them myself, since it's not exactly difficult to do it
I'm always very careful when I burn the edges, but I can't deny that I singe my fingers every now and then when it really begins to burn and I have to put it out somehow. I usually use my fingers for that

beautifully done, I love how you did the mountains, they look excellent! I LOVE drawing and looking at maps, but I can't do anything like this. Your map has an authentic look, and the labeling is so fine and neat! (mine is shaky and childish :/ )

Yes, ink writing is an art form in itself. My art class had us try calligraphy one day... dear lord was it difficult o.o
