Description My second oil painting.
This one was inspired by Caspar David Friedrich - one of the best landscape painters I know - since it was a part of the assignment to make a paraphrase or take inspiration from someone else.
I'm not all too fond of that though so I did my best to keep it true to my own style and preferences. So the setting (and title of the painting) is completely made up.

Amusingly enough I have actually already been compared to Friedrich by one of my teachers here at school though. He mentioned that some of my landscapes reminded him of one of his favourite painters - namely Friedrich. I only realised that after I had begun with this assignment though, since my teacher didn't meantion any names when he said it

Aaaanyway.
I'm learning more and more about the media and I'm beginning to really look forward to improving.
I've already begun on my fourth oil painting, waiting for the third to dry enough so that I can show it.

These oil paintings of mine are used mostly for practice, which is why I paint landscapes. I want to focus on the colours and learn more about mixing and blending so I paint landscapes because... well... it's easy to fall back on.
And I'll stop saying that I can't draw or paint landscapes soon, I promise.

On this specific painting I tried to work with a muted colour scheme as well as getting that effect where objects far back fade while the ones that are closer are darker. It was interesting and I learned a lot while painting this ^_^

I hope that you will like it!

I love the sea and the sky here. Personally I find painting/drawing these two things in recognizable manner very, very hard.
Out of curiosity - do you do layers or do you paint whole picture in one go?

They are pretty darn tricky, yes...
The sky wasn't difficult as much as it was... urr... unorganised I only had a vague idea of how I wanted it to look and took it from there.

I do it almost in one go, save for some breaks to eat and sleep The paint never dries between the times I shade stuff so it's not layers at least.

Thank you
The sky was slightly experimental since I've never done a sky with oils before but I like it too

Wow. This is amazing. So dreamy... cold and soft at the same time. The water surface around it looks like frozen, or like very calm silvery sea early at dawn. One can't help but wonder what has happened there - but whatever the story, time left it behind.

I love it. The technique you mentioned, where distant objects fade away (and the surface of the water gets almost white at the horizon), looks incredible on this theme, and the limited palette creates a great effect, too. I love everything about it, the broken natural bridge, the ruins, the sea, the sky, and together it's breathtaking.

So beautiful...

I actually have no idea what has happened here x'D I find myself speculating every now and then but I never come to any conclusions
It's fun though

Thank you!
It's been very educational to paint these oil paintings since I get to focus on something else than a character or story. I can just go with the flow and try out new ideas and colours. It's great ^_^

I'm glad that you like it

Maybe it was some joint point of multiple timelines / planes of existence. So multiple things happened there at once.

Yeah, experimenting feels good.
