Description A drawing of my dog Sammy, who we had to put to sleep some weeks ago. I made this one for my father and framed it. I'm pretty happy with it, she really looks like she did when she was alive. The only thing that bothers me a bit, are the white hairs on her chest. I should have put more time in those. Now, they look a bit unreal.

Gosh, she was such a sweet dog... we still miss her a lot.

29x42cm, colored pencils.

Edit: I got an ODD from on ODDS for March 27th 2006!! I'm so proud! Sammy deserves the attention!
(Crap, I never seem to get the icon thing straight, once more it refuses to appear.... have never been able to insert an emoticon either.... )

Edit: Woohoo! I got another Daily Deviation with Sammy. This time by , look at [link] (the journal of april 4th 2007).

i know how you feel, we had to put are cat down about a year ago, cause of a hart tumor. he was at my grandma's cause we couldn't have cats then, and so the night i spent the night there i slept in the room he was in, and when ever i rolled over to one side he would lift his head up and look at me, and i know he knew what was going on, and how sick he was. the next morning right before i left i went in and said bye, i had no idea that, that was the last time i ever touched him. other wise i would have stayed with him longer.

your picture is very nice! i wish i could have a dog.

sorry for my long story about him , i just wanted some one to tell.

Thank you so much. I have a new dog now, but she will always have a special place in my heart and the new one will never replace her. He's great in his own way though. Completely different dog.

i just love your pet portraits, this one reminds me of a lab/german shepherd my family had when I was young. He had the most distinct ears. They would stand up and touch together at the points so my father always called them radar ears ha ha!

Thank you. It was one of the most difficult things I ever had to do, bringing her to the vet and holding her while he gave the injection... But dont worry about too much, she died more then a year ago. So I'm at peace with it now. It was the right decision.

I had to do the same with a beloved kitty cat. Sir Brat T. Bone. What a dear boy he was--he thought he was a dog....

Ah really? I never saw many dogs that looked like her. You know what breeds are in your dog? We could never figur that out. Her death was bad ofcourse, but it was at the right time. She was in too much pain. We're in peace with it. I hope you get enjoy your dog for years to come!

KarinZeller In reply to LindaColijn [2007-06-13 21:52:36 +0000 UTC]

Hi Linda, thanks for the lovely message. I really don't know about my dog's history, because I found him in a parking lot, and he just insisted on coming home with me, by jumping in my car. He had no collar or ID, and I could not find the former owner, so we kept him. He has a face like a Kelpie dog. I saw a photo on a book in a pet shop of a Kelpie, so I know he must have some Kelpie in him. But he has shorter legs, and looks like he has a bit of bull terrier in him. Anyway, he was built tough, better than a lot of pure breeds. Thanks again for your comment, and for sharing the lovely portrait of your dog.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LindaColijn In reply to KarinZeller [2007-06-18 09:35:43 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see. We dont know much about Sam's background either. She came to live with us when she was four. Kelpie could be an option. Sam was build a bit sleeker than your dog I think because she certainly had nothing of a bull terrier in her. We think she had some Border Collie blood in her too. But then again, who cares! They are though little dogs, those mixed breeds. I would definitely want a mixed breed for my next dog.

KarinZeller In reply to LindaColijn [2007-06-24 23:25:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I agree, some of the pure breeds have some genetic problems, where-as genetically a mixed breed can be superior in many ways. Never had a pure bread dog yet...they are too darned expensive anyway, and don't necessarily make better pets.
I will have to post a photo of buddy on my webpage, being that there are a lot of dog and cat friends on DA.

Thank you very much. A lot of love went into this one and I think thats why its still my favorite. Yes, only colored pencils, Derwent watercolour pencils (used as normal pencils, so no water or anything).
