Description 18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on hardboard

The painting of the week. And a pretty desperate one at that. As I suspected, as east as the first two abstract florals were, the third I never could get to work. While I think painting only to please oneself is essential to create original and potentially lasting art, the downside for me is that I've a rather narrow range of what I like, and in the case of the florals, I liked their background and couldn't find anything else that I liked nearly as much, which would've meant I'd just be painting variations of what I'd already done. Not that I don't already, but well, I didn't feel like it. As for this piece, well, I wanted a painting that looked old, and had fun mixing paints to paint the sky until I came to the point where I had to paint something other than sky, and for that you'll have to use your imagination, there's no reason why I have to do all the heavy lifting and spell it out for you.

Thanks. Trying new ideas, but without a plan. We will see what I can come up with this fall. Right now, it's summer and summer's too brief to stay inside and paint.

Reminds me of  morning dew steaming and rising up into the sky on a early summer day in Texas!  Very nice Chuck!  Texas Summer is finally starting to take hold down here,  less and less rain as it should be as we enter the "dog days" of July-August,  and my birthdays coming up(51,  WHY does my wife want to celebrate my birthdays and i don't?!) Ah well time for us to plan our vaction later this summer!  C'ya old friend,   keep slinging that paint around!

Well, happy birthday, anyways Mac. It's all downhill after 50. I'm enjoying summer while it lasts. We've another cool one so far, maybe reaching the low 80's once or twice so far. I'm up with the sun for a 10 to 22 mile bike ride before breakfast, and try to spend as much time outside as possible, so slinging paint is a low priority right now. We've got 8 months of winter to do that.

That reminds me of actress Lea Thompson's  old Caroline in the City show,  her character is from Wisconsin and
she said, "We're cooped up for  8 months of Winter,  You can't AFFORD to let your "issues" out!  Ha!
But down here its getting toasty,  trying to stay in the 90's.   Hope you have a good 4th of July,  Cýa

I like the greeny sky...!!!It's very autumnal..Even has a rider in the sky!!!I think it's all quite  other worldly!!!

I like my greens on the yellow side and my blues on the green side. I like warm colors. Luckily the rider in the sky doesn't pop out for me, (right side lower, I think) so he gets to stay. I usually eliminate faces when they happen in a painting.

You eliminate them...I encourage them

I love the rust and copper colors in it, plus a touch of green patina and blue sulphate on the bottom! And I love how the hazy sky is (deliberately?) proportioned to intensify its grandeur, which is only accentuated by the slim and nondescript landscape, with just a glint of light (on some building or other feature?) in the middle to catch the eye

It has been five years since I last visited your gallery and it is still as pleasing and insightful as it was all those years ago. Thank you for sharing!

Very nice to hear from you once again. Yes, I'm still plodding along, though it's getting harder to think of what to paint and I haven't the attention span I once had either, but I'll not complain. I'm glad you like this piece. Where I live is pretty flat land, so I see a lot of sky, and that has become a feature of my paintings. And well, painting skies can be fun, it's only when you reach the ground that you have to decide just what you're painting... In this case it was city, sort of like London before the skyscrapers. But not exactly, either. The bright building was a little touch of Turner, who always liked to put a little highlight somewhere, I believe.

I don't think it needs an exact location. It is simply London, circa 1950...at least for me. There's a film that crops up on Film4 pretty regularly called 23 Paces From Baker Street. The opening few moments would, I think,  interest you in the context of this really nice painting.

I don't know if you had a particular place/time in mind, but for me this is reminiscent of early 1950s London. I remember one of those British Transport films from 1953, which was called Down to the West Country, but which opened with a view of a sweltering hazy day looking over London rooftops. I'm probably also thinking of Seago's work - and apologies if I'm totally wrong!

That would almost certainly be St Paul's in the distance, if I could've figured out where I was viewing it from by the time I reached the foreground. However, in the end, I couldn't. So it all remains unspecified, but if it is reminiscent of London of the last century, it is not coincidence.

Yikes! Caught out. I came across this article, www.engadget.com/2015/06/11/al… which had an early Monet piece that I don't recall ever seeing before, and early haystack painting, and I really liked it –www.shafe.co.uk/crystal/images…
It was a direct inspiration for this painting.

I could say the painting of the month but it is still in progress.
Month I mean, of course.

Thanks, painting these days is a pretty iffy thing. This could well hold on to the title, by default... However, rainy days keep me off my bike and inside, so, maybe, I'll get some more done. Summer goes by so fast and I hate to miss it.

My summer is also going fast but in a working rhythm - 6am-2pm then 2pm-10pm and finally 10pm-6am. Every shift +4 overhours. Bloody week after week, every bloody day of the week (extra paid but still). So I don't have much time to paint anything... :/ However soon my contract will ends so I need to earn as much as I can, cause I don't know when I will start another and if it also will be paid as much as this one. Yeah, yeah... Now I'm crying. OK. Enough.
Maybe some digital... Will see.

Being old rather sucks, but it has some advantages. Not having to go to work anymore is one of them. And since I've plenty of things to do with all my free time, I can't complain at all. It seems hard to find a balance these days between work and free time and money...
