Description 12x24" 30x60cm acrylic on hardboard

Why fight it? The actual inspiration came from watching the light of the setting sun on the maple trees behind my house yesterday. My current hardboards are dark brown like the original masonite, and most of the trees were painted without any white on the brush or in the colors, so they were pure color, and very deep and dark when painted on such a dark surface. I didn't take too long to paint this -- I think Soley's Endless Summer album went around twice, or a bit more in the background.

How you paint sunsets or sunrises always interest me Chuck because your world seems aflame with light!Β  Making darker objects like the trees and details standout more!Β  Good stuff!

Thanks Mac. I've come to realize that to paint light, you also have to paint darkness to make the light, light. And I almost always want to isolate my main subject against a light background because my clunky style of painting does not lend itself to Β things getting gradually smaller as they recede into the distance.Β

Where drawing is concerned i used to doodle on the side of my test papers when i was in Elementary school,Β  Used to drive my homeroom teacher up the wall! I could draw teeny-tiny things, now i can't,Β  Its been drilled out of me by my High School art teacher(my best bud!) Bill Nakayama!Β  I miss him.

Thanks... As for the colors... oh well, never mind. (I corrected for the color but not the saturation, and it shows.)

I just love this picture, and I do not find that you should have de-saturated the blues - It is beautiful as it is.Β

Thank you. And yes, you are right, it doesn't really matter here. Now if I was offering it for sale, it would matter, because it is so different from the actual painting, and that might make for an unhappy buyer. I just mentioned the blues because I had not noticed how bright they ended up being when I first posted it.

Beautiful painting, bigger than some of your little gems.!!!

Thanks. Though I really should de-saturated the blues. Cameras always seem to emphasis the blues. In this piece they don't glow like that in real life. But then, every painting glows on a computer screen. I just cut up six more little boards, so you've not seen the last of them.Β

Thanks. I seem to be in the mood these days -- but only for an hour or so. But then I was never one to spend too much time working on any one.Β
