Description 18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on hardboard

I spent hours on the waves trying this and that. It's hard to get them to be both logical and interesting. I ended up with them being pretty chaotic, but I suppose that can be justified by the weather. Originally I had a large Thames barge in the painting, but I found that unless you have all the little details, the play of lights and shadows, which you can't get from imagination or thumbnail photos, the thing looks crude. I don't think there's a great future for me in nautical painting... (Opps, forgot to edit out the grass blade and shadows. Took the photo outside early this morning laying it flat on a white mat board but the grass cast rather long shadows in the low winter sun. The low angle also adds to the texture, I suppose. I'd taken a photo with the painting with the long axis towards the sun and found some lines in it which I realized where faint shadows cast by the painted over sails of the barge. Oh well.)

The waves look spectacular, and the little boat.

I didn't even notice. I have comments in my inbox that are almost a year old and I still haven't replied! So you could be WAY worse.

Wow!
The waves are definitely dramatic, it's really good. I especially enjoy the colours of the sea.
