Description 18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on hardboard

My tribe of African violets ain't elegant. They are, however, exuberant, and hopefully this piece captures that casual exuberance. In the past I painted to inspire a mood or a memory. These days I'm going for simply decorative art.

My original intent for this painting was to make it very abstract using the outline of the pattern of leaves as a design. I think I would have had to fill the whole board with leaves to accomplish that, so in the end, it came our pretty literal, and used one of my standard patterns. I also intended it to be a night scene with a splash of moonlight illuminating the plant. However, I chickened out -- like cats, all paintings are grey in the dark and I figured the painting would be too dark and mono-colored to work. Maybe next time.

i really enjoy how simple this painting is. It reminds me of the stained glass flowers you hang in the window. Great use of color too.

Thanks for your observations. The simplicity of shapes was certainly a goal.

Thanks. I like it, though I suspect that it could also be a painting that someone who who has painted far, far few paintings than I have might have done.Still I'll just take what I get these days.
