Project: 3 story illustrationsStory: Withnail & I
Two out-of-work actors in the 60s get tired of their having no food, no heat, no jobs, ect, and decide to go on holiday in the country, which turns out to be an utter gong show. One of the funniest movies I've seen in a very long time and I heartily recommend it, especially now that the Criterion Collection has released a snazzy version of it.
This is the chicken that Withnail & I attempt to cook in a kettle, being so spectacularly unprepared for their holiday. The illustration was well received in class, but unfortunately this was due to the ridiculousness of the situation itself, and nothing that I mysef could take credit for. (other than choosing this point of the story to illustrate)
Acrylic ink, colors adjusted slightly in photoshop. I love this story, I had fun with the drawings, so I guess I'm extra dissapointed that the finished piece was such a hack rush-job. I plan on redoing these over the summer.

this is lovely, your slightly messy style really compliments the theme of Withnail and I, and it's a brilliant freeze frame of the insanity in this film. great work!

Thanks! I really had a lot of fun doing these, and I love the film so much, it's good to hear that other people enjoy them too. The best part though I think was explaining the whole situation to my illustration class!

that must have been hilarious, though it's sad how many people don't get that kind of humor. i was watching it with my brother and his friend and he just found it boring.

I think so. A half-naked Richard E Grant, covered in mustard, running screaming through the bushes, with a talking pimple on his shoulder?
Plus it's a pretty scathing commentary on the advertising industry, and that interests me.

hahaha, i think this is actually my favourite of the three. withnail&i is a brilliant movie and it's always kind of neat to find out other people have seen it.
