Description I've been thinking a lot (okay, more than usual ) about Remus Lupin from OoP and how he must have felt at the end losing his best friend again. I mean it was horrible for Harry losing his godfather but he at least has close friends and (Ron's) family who care about him. Who does Lupin have?

This is just brilliant! I really love your version of Lupin.

Don't worry, you're not alone in thinking way too much about this guy! He's by far my favourite character in the books. There's just something about the way he stays such a nice guy in spite of all the hardship he endures that makes him incredibly admirable. I'd probably go as far as to say that he's one of my heroes.

Aww, thanks so much! Lupin is definitely my favorite adult character of the books. I immediately liked him the minute we first met him on the train to Hogwarts. The way he took command and protected Harry and the others when the dementors entered their compartment was very heroic. He was such a great and patient teacher and always very humble. I have to say I was disappointed in how JKR killed him (and Tonks) off. Sirius, Snape, and Dumbledore all had dramatic deaths but Lupin got a sentence or two after the fact. We never got to see him die in action like the others. It's a shame for such a wonderful character. Er....sorry for the rant!

You're very welcome!
When I first read the books, I was a bit young (I can't have been more than four or five when I first read PoA) to properly identify with adult characters. I thought Lupin was a cool teacher, and that was about it. But over the last few years I've really come to love him as a character, and I think he's just brilliant. I definitely agree that he deserved a better death, although I obviously would have preferred if he didn't die at all! The lack of a death scene was redeemed a little when he was one of the people Harry summoned with the Resurrection Stone, but Lupin and Tonks' deaths still get me. They both deserved better!
Don't worry about ranting, it's quite alright. I'm equally guilty of it myself!

I have to thank you for creating a face that I could finally put to Lupin. No matter how many times I read the books, he was always a blank face in my mind, I simply could never clearly picture him, and movie Lupin just didn't fit the bill. There is 'my' Lupin up there, as with all of your other works wonderfully captured.

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! Lupin has always been my favorite adult character in the books, so I think I knew how I pictured him in my mind from the beginning. David Thewlis was ok in the movies but I hated the non-canon scars on his face and the horrendously awful "werewolf" he turned into.

I always liked Lupin as a character, which made it so frustrating to not have a picture of him in my mind! And I have to agree with you on your issues with movie Lupin, particularly with the 'werewolf', I know they were going for the sickly werewolf look, but in my opinion they almost landed in the Gollum spectrum!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LMRourke In reply to FlightOfTheWren [2012-06-13 19:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Definitely! It was so disappointing. All they had to do was read JKR's description of a werewolf from the books. Even if he looked more like the "Twilight" movies' werewolves that would have been a vast improvement.

*Gives Remus a hug* He looks so lonely and sad but still I'm not sure... strong I suppose. He has to be a very strong person to have gone through all he has and still be able to keep fighting the good fight and caring about others. I think I love you for darwing this. I nfact I do love you. Best Remus art ever. You captured his old/young conundrum very well and I like how you depict him considering we're never given much of a description in the books. It is beautiful.

It's the most heartbreaking and the sadest picture I've ever seen in my entire life. Remus is my most favourite character, through all the books, and you managed to draw him exactly how I imagined him.
Looking at this one picture makes me cry. It looks like he's going to burst into tears, turn around and break every moment.
Definitly the best picture of him I ever saw. It shows his whole life in one picture and you put all the sadness in one single glare. Awesome.

I've come across your art a bit late but I love your HP characters, especially Remus Lupin. And now we know what happens to him in the last book JKR's reasoning for what happened isn't really reasonable to me. I would've liked it to be a happier ending since Remus deserved it. But there's always fanfic right?

Aww makes me feel sad to think of poor Lupin being all sad. What with losing James and Sirius and Peter in quick succsession then getting one back and losing Peter without even getting him back again and THEN losing Sirius AGAIN. Well it just makes we hate J.K. rowling.

Very good pic,a little too good on the hurt look *huggles Lupin and goes off to cry some more*

I love how you portray Lupin. It drives me crazy how so many fangirls portray him as a pretty boy. The way you draw him is a lot like the way I picture him. And for once, I think the casting was bad in the movie. This picture is very nice. I can see the emotions in his face. He looks like he's ready to cry. Poor guy.

LMRourke In reply to RobinxAmon [2004-07-04 02:18:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think I picture him this way because he's actually closer to my age canon-wise and I see him as a mature adult ( a nice looking but and care-worn adult)

Your view on these characters is marvelous! I adore seeing them not in their 'movie' form. This is almost identical to how I pictured Lupin. I haven't gotten to read OotP yet but I know what happens. I mean how could I not know when I hang out on this site. EVERYONE nearly let it slip when the book first came out.

You captured that raw human emotion of pain and suffering beautifully in this one. The dark, grainy look of it really adds as well. Rowling is so good at writing feelings and making you see the characters at that moment. You translate it perfectly to paper.

Glad I stumbled upon ya! I enjoyed every single one of your LotR pics as well. I'll be addin ya to my watch list. Can't wait to see more from ya!

Wow. I can see the resemblence of him and his younger self you drew. All without a reference? How cool.

Now THIS is the Lupin I envision: very haggard, looks like he's been through the mill twice and then trampled by a horse, not some handsome bishie. He does look so unhappy. I want to make him feel better.

LMRourke In reply to BaaingTree [2004-05-09 17:57:47 +0000 UTC]

I did use models for both those pictures but they were totally different people. I try my best to keep my ideas of the characters (Sirius, Remus and Snape at least) consistant so that their younger and older versions are plausible.
Thanks for the wonderful comments!
