Description I think I would like to dedicate this picture to everyone that has ever had a dream he/she knows can never come true.

I don't know... sometimes I think I do my best work when I'm really pissed off (long story there... ) For those who are curious, the hair is dynamic hair and each strand was rendered seperately. I also wanted it to look a little "artificial" as well. This piece really did push the limit of my machine.

I don't know but it seems to evoke something deep down. Dunno what though.

Even though I did this in Povray (Megapov), it is possible to create the hologram effect in poser using edge blends and transparencies and transparency falloffs. However, the glow effect at the base is a different story....

I like it and I like it a lot Really high quality, cool concept, the lighting you do so well (your own code again?) and the composition flows well.

Therefore, it's somewhat harder to criticise, but I'd like to point out two things anyway: one, I think she looks too happy to haven broken dreams; with her current expression, I'd sooner see in it that she's dreaming about the day she'll be complete, not lamenting the fact she'll never be complete, which is what I think you want to achieve.

Secondly, and this is more my personal preference, I think she could use some more wires running from out of her body.

I was listening to an interview with an author I liked nad he said that he really needed an editor or to listen to his work being read aloud because what he intended to write and what was actually written didn't always match. To me, the DA community is that editor. So please, don't feel bad about critiques. They only only help me improve.

Now for the freaky part..... After having this posted for a couple of hours last night , I was looking at it and thinking.... "Wow, I really should have given her a more longing expression and I really need a lot more wires coming out of her." All I can say to that is "Get out of my head!!!"

Yes, the lighting was generated by PIBL. I only added 2 lights to the scene. One on top of the hologram generator and one inside the hologram generator.

As for interpretation, well, I think there a several that could be done for this piece (one is, of course, the one you pointed out). In the end, it is really up to the viewer to decide.

Aye aye, cap'n I'll continue to critique, no problem.

Sorry, I like it in your head But, y'know, great minds think alike an' all that jazz...

I really need to get off my ass and give it a test run myself

It IS in the eye of the beholder I'm always surprised what people make of my pieces

I stared and stared. Its exceptional!! I think that hologram lady is her, before she broke.

Lokai2000 In reply to parrotdolphin [2006-07-21 13:07:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! When I made this, several interpretations came to mind.

1) The little hologram thingy is having a conversation with her. Who knows what they are talking about.
2) The hologram is what she once was and can never go back to.
3) The hologram is what she wants to be but can't.
4) The hologram is what she will be someday.

I'm sure there are others.
The only real intent here is that she is the "broken" and the hologram is the "dream".

Yes, its a fun peice that way, all the ways you can interpret it. But still, an emotional subject.

Dreams... half of mine come true, its dissappointing when some dont.

But either way, great picture, the expression on her face, and the pose achieve the emotion you are after

Hehe, I know how that is - like the special pic I've posted last night was the perfect excuse to include a nosebleed - but I missed it completely until somebody reminded me.
Like you only remember that important thing you were supposed to buy at the supermarket after you are already unloading the car at home! LOL

What could that thing be saying to her...
I love that lighting XD

I've been what the little hologram could be saying myself.
Unfortunately, I don't always have a real clear intent in a piece. This is part of the fun for me as it allows for discussion on the interpretation of the scene.
