I love everything about this bad boy of a photograph from the content, the coliurs, the shapes, the composition, it just feels so african if that makes sense.

Gorgeous work.

I have to ask? How is the sand so red?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

londn In reply to MyFinalWhisper [2006-09-18 04:49:41 +0000 UTC]

its orange..

in this particular reigon of zambia the soil has a very high clay content.. thus the orange tint.

Zambia? It says it was taken in Maun Botswana, No wonder i'm so confused. I lived there for a while so I was amazed to see the sand orange... when it's actually white.

quite positive this was taken just outside the main city of livingstone zambia

the ground was orange. the sky was blue.

Makes perfect sense that it would've been shot in livingstone, Got confused by the description. Sorry. Lovely photograph.

I like the way you played with the electric cables. In my opinion the frameing could have been longer downside to capture the jacket...but it's a great shot anyway

londn In reply to hbynoe [2005-05-26 03:07:30 +0000 UTC]

no crop..

the colors were there.. the ground was orange.. the air.. so clean.. sparkled with a dark blue..

i hate being forced to touch levels.. but its as though you have to control the image in order to gain the essence of what you wanted to capture.

when i originally took these i was still developing a technique with post editing.. i would like to redo everything, but unfortunately.. time =\

Amazing contrast.. The angle is a tad awkward, but other elements of the image make up for the lack thereof.

Its ok, but a photo like this would have been better done with a straight angle..Its kinda clashing genres. Its a great photo nonetheless, 9/10 from me.

iamtsu In reply to londn [2005-05-07 04:38:44 +0000 UTC]

Hmm..Well..
I classified this shot in my head as a photojournalist kinda shot, but I believe that angle belongs in a picture where you want to exaggerate something, and kinda take the reality away from something.

Its still a beatiful shot, very well composed.

i can certainly see why it's your favourite.

it's very striking. i noticed it
in someone's favourites gallery and
right away i was drawn to it.

i love the colours!

it's great how the ground is tilted one way and
the phone lines are tilted another way.
it gives the photo great balance.
and, of course, your subject
is very captivating.

this is so well done.
you should be proud!

the power lines almost mirror the lines in the fence and create nice local symmettry. the vibrant orange of the ground is well balanced by the blue of the sky. very nice overall effect.

thankyou..

some background.. if you saw my other images from the dbth series i was in a very very dense marketplace type area.. the people had caught word of my camera that could delivery images instantly.. they were following me with the hope that they would get their picture taken as well (lucky me) .. i finally break out of this labryinth an was walking side by side with this man.. so peaceful... well dressed.. someones grandfather..

i dono.. that whole trip was about me drawing parallels with people i was so obviously different from.. it really put my life into perspective..

i'd really be nitpicking to give this an advanced critique; it really is a marvellous, soul-stirring photograph. so simple, with strong saturated colors to remind you of the time and place. the man is ordinary and epic all at the same time, and the angle is dynamic, creating an impression rather than a mere record of the moment.

only thing i can think of is that a half-step back might have better included his feet in the composition...which may or may not have been necessary.

all i can say is that i absolutely love this photograph. you should most definitely be proud of it.
