Nope, but I'm sure they're spiritually related. The writers of this movie gave the monster a very Lovecraftian-sounding name.

So cool. One of the most under rated monsters ever.

Dagoth would look right at home in an episode of classic Doctor Who or Ultraman.

Except for a few scenes, where I believe Pat Roach took over due to Andre having a back problem.

I'm guessing it's when Arnie is clinging to Dagoth's back.

Fun fact, this demon god has a canonical basis from "The Scarlet Citadel" by Robert E. Howard. The ape-man in the red cloak is a shout-out to "Rogues in the House", another Howard tale. I liked the critter very much as a pseudo-Lovecraftian beastie that many of Howard's demonic entities resembled.Β

I like this movie because of the hommages to the literary Conan lore it sticks in there.

The fights are pretty good too, Mako clearly enjoys being the Hyrkanian hedge mage again, and Olivia d'Abo is hawt.Β Β

I think they used the name Dagoth because of its pseudo-Lovecraftian feel.

Fantastic! Yeah, I saw this in the theater bc it wasn't rated R. BLEW MY MIND! The transformation scene and then that weird fleshy web-mouth (to which you did justice^^). And the gory horn ripping in the finale. And, Grace Jones as a feral wild-woman. Also that wizard monster in the room of mirrors. Gosh! What a film! Truly one of my faves.

I remember seeing this movie in the theater back when I was a college student. Conan didn't take Dagoth down very easily. This is a fine tribute to that beast.Β Β

Thanks! I'm glad this movie actually has some fans out there, since most people seem to just shit on it.

I've always enjoyed both the Conan movies. They're good entertainment with no attempts to deliver deep messages or any of that other nonsense. The original Conan stories might not be what scholars would call great literature, but I still love them.Β

The first movie does have a few messages, including the famous one that flesh is stronger than steel, or rather; will makes you strong. It's also very poignant at times, and very well told.
I love the Conan tales by REH, and their "Savage Sword of Conan" Marvel adaptations. They're not about any great ideas, but they do handle very human issues extremely well, and REH's writing is both sweeping and focused. There's no fat in the Conan short stories. They're all story.

It is very underrated, simply because it took a different route than Conan the Barbarian. The first movie is one of my all-time faves, but Destroyer was much closer in tone and themes to both the comics I was reading and the original Robert E Howard stories.
