Description When I heard about the earliest known American ceratopsian, Aquilops, I knew I had to make a picture. So I made this one just before my vacation, but I had a hard time thinking of what to show. While looking for references, I came across the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum website, and saw the picture of the Aquilops skull sitting on the Triceratops skull. That was it. I'm sure if Aquilops and Triceratops ever met they'd have no idea what to make of each other. Triceratops would wonder what is this little pipsqueak, not know that it's his distant ancestor. While Aquilops would just be frightened of another large beast (speaking of which, I imagine the quill-feathers that would show up later on Big T would be used for scary-display purposes on Little A, the way a cat's hair rises when it arches its back in fear). By the way, here's the museum's website:

It's amazing how tiny they were.

Well, everything has to start small. Look at us humans - our ancestors were small enough to scuttle through the trees.

Yeah, I kept thinking of the tiny Eohippus, ancestor to the horses.

Or the little Hylonomus, the first of the reptiles.
