Reconstruction from the Mycenaean warrior vase c~1200 BCNow those are either beards or helmet. one guy has rivets in his beard so im guessing helmet

These guys seem to be a standardized standing army, so I'm guessing their armor is fairly cheap hide scale, and speculating the riveted helmets were holding together layers of fabric and hide , since bronze was so expensive at the time.

seems to be popular in the bronze age and antiquity, but it might not be worth having a bite taken out of your shield.

There are depictions of what could be interpreted as a scale vest on the vase that drapes over the front and back, but not the sides. Of course, that's all up to interpretation.

He certainly looks a lot more fearsome than the characters on the original vase, who look a bit cartoonish to me.Β
