Description This is kind of a treat: this is the first drawing I've done in nine months. That's right, all of the stuff I've been posting is nine months old-at least.

Well, this is my redesign of Kraid from Metroid. Metroid is my favorite game, Kraid is my favorite boss, and this is the result of my having questionable art skills. BTW...if someone sees this and wants to color it, that would be awesome. Just give me credit for the lines and send me a link to the final version so I can see it.

My version of Kraid is meant for a 3D game and has some adjustments for that. He also has some overkill, because that's my style. Instead of three spike-platform launchers, he has five, and they're surrounded by thorns/spikes that shoot out shotgun-style when the larger spikes launch. These larger spikes are symbiotic organisms that can actually change their course slightly in midair. The smaller spikes and midair abilities were added to make him a bigger threat in 3D and make his platforms able to fill up more of a room. This is also important because he's much bigger: he's about a third again as tall as the boss Quadraxis from Metroid Prime 2, and his massive bulk makes him about twice as heavy. If you don't know how big that it is..it's about 90 feet tall and really heavy (probably 180 ton range, but I don't really know how much either of them would weigh so...just a lot.)

His arms are longer and much stronger and instead of throwing his fingers he has a second set of claws under his main finger claws that are thinner and curved that he can throw out like boomerangs. His tail is also much longer and very strong and mine ends in a large spiked club (I actually drew it, but it wasn't attached to the tail it was just a separate pic and I didn't want to submit an entire pic of just a tail tip). Finally, despite his massive bulk, his powerful legs let him move around a little faster than the 2D Kraid-which could already move a little fast for a big fat thing-and he'll try to crush Samus, smash her against a wall, or-if she's high enough-bite/eat her. And finally, while the 2D Kraid shot small boulders out of his mouth, my Kraid spits acidic blobs accompanied by a blast of acid. These globules stick to the floor and walls of the battle area as well as to Samus and cause serious damage, but can also be destroyed for mid-battle health items and such.

Of course Kraid has his incredibly thick and armored hide that's almost impossible to damage. His eyes, mouth, and the inside of the holes where his spikes launch from (this is new and I think it would work) are weak to damage, but I see Samus having to use the environment to defeat him in this battle, which would occur much later in the game than any Kraid battle in the past.

So that's my Kraid. Here's a quick summary:

Kraid:

Height: 90 feet
Weight: 180 tons

Dangers to Samus:
Massive size and strength
Long arms with clawed hands
Boomerang claws
Long tail with spiked club
Large enough to eat Samus if given the chance
Able to launch spikes and large symbiotic life-form spike platforms
Body his heavily armored and incredibly damage resistant
Can spit acid and acidic globules

No, I actually think that's pretty cool. I never that before, and you're right. It's not the only tie to a kaiju Kraid has, either: his roar (at least the Super Metroid version) is Anguirus's roar from the Showa Godzilla movies.

Awesome! Kraid and Metroid absolutely rock! And did you know his "spike missles" are actually living creatures? At least on the official Nintendo artwork they have mouths and stuff.

Really? I've seen some concept art and never seen any mouths, but then again the art pics were pretty small and low res. Having them be symbiotic creatures/living things that are a part of him seems like a logical idea though. I may have to edit his description to add that. Thanks for the info.

It was the Super Metroid artwork to be exact, here, look closely on the right where it shows the underside of the spike, you can see a shark like mouth.

And no problem! And did you ever read the other comments I left you?

Ah...yeah, never looked that close, I guess. Well, I already changed it a little to include that they're symbiotic/living organisms. It was a good idea. Thanks.

I read it somewhere else a long time ago, so I doubt I'd of noticed either. And no prob, for some reason I like them better as living creatures too.
