yhea! XD you spot the ears! I love them too, it was to give her a more "animal" look, to show that she is not human...
Thank you very much

C'est vraiment très beau ! J'adore le regard de la fée, et la façon dont tu as utilisé l'aquarelle Même si les ailes ont un style "différent", je trouve que ça rend très bien ! J'aime bien aussi le rapport avec la gargouille

Lorelei-BRC In reply to Avel-V [2007-06-15 13:16:31 +0000 UTC]

Merci beaucoup!

I think the reason people compare this to Amy Brown is that:
1. The fairy has an overall colour scheme (yellow hair/eyes, yellow/red wings)
2. The wings are prominently displayed from a side angle
3. The wings are darker at their extreme edges
4. The use of an evening rooftop as a setting

But anyway.

The eyes are great, and I adore that hair.

The only change I might suggest would be to darken the rooftop, give it more texture and shadows so that her wings are not the only dark thing in the picture. This would make the image more balanced, and provide more visual interest with the contrast between it and her pale skin and the pale sky.

Lorelei-BRC In reply to SongSprite [2007-06-12 14:30:09 +0000 UTC]

You are probably right about the comparison... but that is how I imagine fairies... the evening rooftop came from the beautyfull church I have just in front of my home (I live in a very small place and the church was built in the 13th centuary, and it has got wonderfull gargoyles on its roof), and I won't change the rooftop color cause I manage to get the true color of this church's wall, which is sandy, even if you might be right about the contrast. But I like it the way it is...
Thank you for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

Wow, I really love this! The wings look so awesome! I can see some Amy Brown inspiration here, actually. Still, it's a great painting! You have a cool style, keep it up!

thank you! you are not the first one to tell me that it is amy brown inspired but not at all, in fact I must have seen her work once, years ago and never since, maybe we have the same muse, I really don't know...
Anyway, I take it as a compliment!
Thanks again.

beautiful and delicate coloring. Also a bit startling when you realize the eyes are not those of a happy nymph

thanks a lot! yes, she is not what I would call a happy nymph, , she is more of a dangerous creature if you want my point of view... very dangerous, especialy for men... '

Well... I never know how to take those sort of comments, they are several ways to understand it:

-first, as an accusation as if you wanted to say "oh look what a shame, you copied another artist!!"
-second, just as a simple constatation.... Well, not very interesting...
-and thirdly, as a sort of compliment, I could paint as well as Amy Brown...

Anyway, I don't know very well what you wanted to say but I suerely did not copied Amy brown at all ( Might have visited her gallerie once when I was 15, and that's very far away), I just went to re-visit it after reading your comment to check if this was really amy Brown-like but I don't really see where if you exept the gargoyle...
Well, I do not have to justify my work but I wanted to say that they are not so many different ways to paint fairies and that Amy Brown, even if she is a great artist, do not have the corner of them all.
That is to say that this sort of comment are very disturbing for the artist and minimizing their work. You do not spend a lot of time on a peice to hear a while after that it is not your proper style and that you do not own the merit of it.
Maybe you could tell me what you think in a more constructive comment.

I'm sorry, I didnt' want to offend you in any way. I am not accusing you of anything at all, I'm just saying that's what it reminds me of. It was just the first thing that came to mind when I looked at it. And I'm not saying that you paint just like Amy Brown, but the overall mood just made me think of her paintings. And that's not bad at all

Lorelei-BRC In reply to Elitha [2007-05-25 15:17:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm pleased you ansewred back, I understand better what you wanted to say. This is the problem with internet and written comments, you don't have somebody in front of you, you can't here their voice or intonation and that why you can easaly misinterpret something. For the commenter it's going to be self-évident, but for the reader it' not so simple.
Anyway, I now know that I can take it as a compliment and that's the most important, I see also what reminds you of amy Brown in this picture with the light mood and the pastel colors.
Thank you for taking the time to comment!

I know, sometimes it can be hard to interepret what a person is trying to say without actually hearing their voice and intonation. But I'm glad that there's no more confusion

That's some amazing work with watercolours! The wings are my favourite part, they're so beautiful. ^^ And her eyes are paralyzing.

Lorelei-BRC In reply to veychyryn [2007-05-24 15:15:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I wanted to do nice but unusual wings that could also be a warning like those animals or insects that have bright colors to warn that they are poisonous or dangerous, even if they are the most beautifull. I wasn't sure about the spotty bit but it was an impulsion so I fallowed it. I wanted to gave her a feline look to enforce the idea of danger.
Thanks again!!!

You're very welcome. She does have a feline look to her, and the dots on the wings came out wonderfully.

Whoa, that's pretty cool. I love the detail in the wings and the hair, and the eyes are really eerie. I like that gargoyle she's holding on to, it really gives the scene an angle with everying moving away from it. Nice work.
