Description Brushed ink with digital colours. Here's the viking berserker holding stamford bridge. Notice the spear head about to stab him in the groin. They couldn't take him down after 4 hours so someone floated under the bridge on a barrel or a piece of wood or something and stabbed him through the planks of the bridge with his spear. Jerks.

Jerks indeed! Those darn Anglo-Saxons don't play fair! Of course, I'm half-Norwegian, so I'm biased.

This is great! I love the poses. You did a wonderful job. The Berserker looks amazing. Stanford Bru... such an amazing battle. Sorry, I used the Norwegian spelling.

BTW, have you heard the song Stanford Bru? It's the ballad of Stamford Bridge, and it's from the Viking point of view. You can find it on YouTube. Once again, great job!

After I just finished reading the Viking at Stamford bridge, I think this artwork really seals the deal for me. Excellent work!

i love the whole one man stand... the detail on the mail and fur. though i must ask.. what is that weapon ur viking is holding???

regarding the points made below
hmmm it (the spear) is a bit too subtle and i wouldnt have thought of that scenario if not for the description.. and if you had wanted to emphasize the point of the spear you could have tried this.... umm wait you actually can edit this pic if you want in this way

have the spear breaking through the wood rather than being thrown through a gap. that way you could draw the splinters flying through the air.
second.. just smudge the spear to give it the idea of motion in the right "direction".
finally.. yes the lighting isnt right for it but just have the spear lightened up a bit. "shiny" you know just a slight bit.. like on the darker side of the spear. itll catch the eye a lot better

very nice very nice.. like it very much. love the lighting. great pic
cheers

I just saw the spearpoint this time. Dirty rat bastards, cheating on a man's heroism and nobility. But fitting for my situation. Anyway, featured here: [link] Great, fantastic, art, congrats! -Debra

Hey Debra, thank you kindly, yeah I worried that the spear was a little too subtle when I did it but oh well. Glad you like it and thanks for the feature.

Love the angle of this piece. The only critique I could offer is that at the battle of stamford bridge, Harald and his army had no time to don their armor and were fighting in clothing with their weapons.

Hey thanks man...you know your vikings too huh? Cool...but actually the Norwegian King's Saga says that most left their armour on the ships but not all, and the Anglo Saxon Chronicles says that the viking defender of the bridge had armour...hence the chainmail...but who knows?

Good point. I've read King Harald's saga and The Heimskringla but not in many years. I think I seen a TV show on the battle at Stamford bridge and the historian said that they did'nt have time to arm themselves, but whatever, It's a great pic all the same!

Such a great yet sad story.. I like the colours in this painting and the detail of all the soldiers standing at the coast is amazing.

Well done.
