Description I am already given to the power that rules my fate.
And I cling to nothing, so I will have nothing to defend.
I have no thoughts, so I will see.
I fear nothing, so I will remember myself.
Detached and at ease,
I will dart past the Eagle to be free

One more question (and thank you for your patience)... did you use a model or reference for the woman in this painting?

Losenko In reply to Phaedris [2012-01-23 03:51:17 +0000 UTC]

I was impressed by the actress Zhang Ziyi, when painted, but the photo is not used, so it it not very similar. I wanted to convey the impression of more than a portrait.

Zhang Ziyi ?!? Your woman is much prettier! For some reason she looks very familiar to me.

OK Now I'll stop commenting

I think the attraction of Zhang Ziyi is that she is half plain, half beautiful; half child, half woman.

You are 100% woman. 100% Mila; artist, poet, intellectual... infinitely more attractive.

Oops.. when does telling the truth become flirting?

It's very interesting that you matched my Casteneda quote to your drawing. They're two quite different energies and the combination is... amazing.

I've been meaning to ask you this for quite a while - did you have a story behind this drawing when you decided to create it?

I drew him a poem inspired by the poet Nikolai Gumilev. He has a poem "Chinese watercolor."

Do you think the woman is Anna Gorenko (Akhmatova)? I'm having a hard time getting a good translation of the poem but he was so obsessed with her it makes sense.

Even with the crappy translation I am in awe at your interpretation.

Oh, found!

I see capital through the flurry
On this Monday night twenty-first.
Some do-nothing has made up the story
That love exists on the earth.

And from laziness or from boredom
All believed, and thus they live:
Wait for meeting, fear the parting,
And sing songs of love.

But to others opens a secret
And upon them descends a still..
I by accident came upon this
And since then am as if I'm ill.

Thank you so much!

This is what I found for "Chinese Watercolor". Parts of it don't make sense:

And I dreamed that my heart does not ache,
It - porcelain bell in yellow China
At pagoda colorful ... Visit and ringing in welcome,
in enamel sky teasing Cranes flock.
A quiet girl in a dress of red silk,
Where gold embroidered wasps, flowers and dragons,
With compressed legs look without thoughts and dreams,
carefully listening to the lungs, lungs chimes.

I love this poem still here:

Like undistinguishable horses,
Gleam by my ever-painful days,
As if fade all the living roses,
And die all living nightingales.

But she is, too, upset and saddened,
My single governess – my love,
And under her skin of a satin,
The poisoned blood is now moved.

And if I stand the world I live in,
That is because I have a dream:
Both of us, like two blind children,
Will go to the highland’s rims,

Where clouds are so white and close,
Where only goats run the dales,
To seek forever faded roses,
And hark to lifeless nightingales.

There is a song for these lyrics: [link]

I can only try to simplify the text and translate it to a clear sense:

I dreamed that my heart stopped hurting
It has a porcelain bell in China
The bell hangs in a colorful pagoda and rings
And mocks his ringing of cranes in the sky.

The fragile girl in a yellow silk dress
On silk embroidered with wasps, flowers and dragons.
She pursed her feet under her, froze
And listens to the ringing of a bell

This is very interesting. The words seem to say one thing, but my heart hears something else.

"but my heart hears something else" And that's fine - everyone sees the picture differently, perceive differently to music or poetry.

I have not met people who do not love Akhmatova. Her poetry - feminine, deep and philosophical. She is very sensual and full of deep meaning. This is a great poet. Very much I love her early poems, I love this one (Transfer could not find it (( ):

Двадцать первое. Ночь. Понедельник.
Очертанья столицы во мгле.
Сочинил же какой-то бездельник,
Что бывает любовь на земле.

И от лености или со скуки
Все поверили, так и живут:
Ждут свиданий, боятся разлуки
И любовные песни поют.

Но иным открывается тайна,
И почиет на них тишина...
Я на это наткнулась случайно
И с тех пор все как будто больна.
