He's kinda like Darkstalkers' equivalent of Schemer from Shining Time Station, or Bulk and Skull from Power Rangers - they may not stand up the right reasons, but their personalities are so fucking awesome, you like them more then the good guys!

I always saw Zabel as a multifaceted character. On one end you have the goofy prankster with a big mouth, and on the other you have something a bit darker. This was most evident in the anime I think.
