Day 2 One day event show jumping phase
For Havillands stables Havillands Fabio and John Dampford.
After having 'a word' with Fabio, John has got him to co-operate a bit more. Here you can see the little Arabian stallion clearing a reasonable sized jump, he might be small on the scale of things but there's a lot of elastic, springy, bounce in those hindquarters! Never let it be said that Arabs can't jump!
John looks a lot happier with this discipline since Fabio isn't trying to play up or get his own way, but then, which horse doesn't like jumping?
John is actually used to riding Harap, who is significantly larger and has a much longer stride, but he used to ride ponies when he was a kid (Just like the current younger Dampfords do now) and this is reminiscent of this. He used to have a grey pony called Snowflake and was distraught when she died of old age-to be replaced by Rosie- Jenny and Khi think that this is why he always favours the grey horses in the stable, in memory of Snowflake. However John gets on well with most equines (oddly except Meredith). Here Fabio's silken flaxen mane matches John's untidy straw-like hair in colour, making this a real 'Blonde Moment' for all the nicest reasons.
Bunny has decided to do the course with them but since he is much too small to get over the top bar he is squeezing underneath or taking the easier option like you can see here.
